Hello Geeks,
I really really need your help!
I bought this spray tan machine from Ebay.. It said it was the maxi mist lite, though not sure whether it is or not! It just says on the manual...Tanning System TS10....
When i turned it on, it sounded like a bloody turbo hoover... its so unbelievebly loud! I just cant get around the noise.. its worse than a hoover! When i wrote to him and complained, he got back to me and said that its common sense that a good machine that can spray someone in a few minutes will sound like that.. And that every system that has a suck in or blow out system like a hoover, normally all have the same motors in it...
To be honest, i had a spray tan machine at the place i worked, and it did not sound like that.. I used to think it was loud, untill i heard this one...
Has any one bought this machine, or does anyone know whether its true about the noise?
I just find it so hard to believe, and i dont know whether i should send it back or not... How will i be able to tell if there actually is a fault in the machine and thats the reason for it being soooooooo loud!
Sorry about the big essay, but i payed 130 pounds including shipment and i dont expect to get a machine that sounds like that, i think clients will complain! How can i tell them to turn around, with that noise!!!
Please, i really need your help
Any suggestions or comments would be soooo grateful
Thank you

That's why people don't use ebay to buy professional products.

Well, i live in spain so its not easy for me to get things... A lot of places in the UK wont ship out, and i didnt know where else to get one from.
I know a lot of people that have got good deals, and this company on ebay said they are suntana spray tan... So i trusted them, but i dont really know that much about the sounds and things, thats why i need help. If it isnt right, then ill send it back.

I think all the turbine ones are quite noisy.I have the t200 and that is noisy. You should be fine with suntana they have someone who does come on here quite a bit and quite a few geeks use their products and do recommend.
This is their website in uk.Spray Tanning Solutions and Equipment

Hi if you have bought the machine I think you have then you havent been ripped off on the noise factor. Most HVLP machines sound like hoovers. If you have used an airbrush & compressor in the past this would have been quieter but, a lot more messy. Im sure if you spoke to dave at Suntana he would re assure you of this. The machine you have bought will do the job its supposed to do with light usage. But I do agree with the buying on ebay comment, its better to buy direct from a supplier:hug:

I have a twin cyclone hoover and my 5008 is a lot louder! :)

I dont think any machine should be so loud that a client wouldn't be able to hear you ask them to turn around.I use the hands on method with St Tropez and so cant say I have ever heard one working. But hand on heart if all I was offered by a rep is a machine that sounded like a loud hoover and where neither my client could hear me and I couldn't hear them I would tell them to sling it!!!.It does sound like something isnt right. Why not send it back and get in touch with a reputable company and buy a new one where you have the back up,training and support?

Good luck:hug:

Will clients not complain if they sound like that? Seriously, mine is louder than a hoover! MUCH louder! How will i be able to tell them to turn around, they wont hear me, cos its too loud!
I think people wouldnt like it, if its as loud as that!

Put it back on ebay and sell it

If its louder than a hoover then maybe you have got a dodgy one but all the hvlp machines have a hoover type sound to them its the only negative point with this system of spray tanning, when compared to the air brush and compressor

The Spray Mate Lite is a lot louder than the Maximist. It almost has a whistle to it.

Your client will still be able to hear you though. I have this machine and the Maximist and use different ones depending on my mood with my own clients and have never had any problems with it.

Rest assured your machine is fine, its come from a reputable dealer who just so happens to also sell on ebay. And whilst ebay is awash with fakes, dodgy machines and dodgy sellers you also get good ones too.

The spray mate lite is only designed for light useage though so don't expect a great deal from it. 3-4 clients max at any one time and allow it to cool right down before doing anyone else.

Its a much smaller motor - in a much smaller casing and has a smaller fan so it cannot cool down as quick as others.

And whilst this may not apply to you - when you are using it put the machine on a hard surface, not a rug or carpet as this prevents it cooling down quicker.

I wouldn't use ebay to buy professional products darlin, just not worth it. Send it back and go to a proper company. Atleast you have the guarantee of sending it back if it ever goes wrong. You can't do that with ebay

Suntana are a professional proper company that also advertise on Ebay.

Hi,

I've got the same machine, also from Suntana & I don't get any complaints about the noise. I tell people that the machine will be noise before I start so they expect it.

They can still hear me when I ask them to turn around etc, I just have to speak a little louder than I normally would but it doesn't cause any problems.

It's a good machine, I don't do this full time, only evenings but I have done parties of people with this machine & have not had any problems with it.

Suntana are good supplier, Dave is always happy to help when I need something.

You actually get more protection purchasing from ebay than just randomly picking a site off the net. I stopped selling on ebay because of the fees and the fact they are now knocking off sellers that sell new stock reverting back to the days when it was a second hand market so its days are numbered.

You get 45 days no questions asked return time on ebay which most normal shops do not have, however after that you really are on your own with a lot of companies.

You will no doubt get just as ripped off in the high street as you can on ebay so don't really see why people are so against it. It always favours the buyer over the seller - I know because I sold a laptop on there and lost the money £300 of it! Yes you have to have your dodgy dectector brain on you but its not always that simple.

It dosn't matter who the Spray Mate Lite is from, and theres a few companies on here that sell it that have a good reputation and they all sound the same! If you wanted a quieter machine or a machine that makes no noise at all then you have to dig deep and put your money where your mouth is!

These small machines were created because demand is so high on low priced equipment, whereas for a few pounds more you can buy the larger models which are more robust and designed for constant use - but still sound like a hoover albeit slightly quieter!

Airbrush compressors are hundreds of pounds, are very heavy so not ideal for mobile therapists and overspray too much so extraction is an absolute must.

I am surprised the amount of people that call ebay when many of us have lurked on there for hours watching auctions we are bidding on end. Some professional stuff is fine to buy on there but second hand electricals for your salon, or skin and nail products that you don't know where it originated from is something to steer clear of.

I bought loads of stuff for my salons on there, from rugs to desks, plants, ornaments, throws, cushions etc. Got myself some fab bargains although I have now blocked it on my PC as I was buying far too much!

We, like a lot of reputable companies, have a presence on eBay. It is a perfectly safe place to shop. If in doubt, read the customer feedback of the particular seller in question, if a thousand customers give it thumbs up you can be fairly sure you are dealing with a company with good ethical values.

To the customer from Spain, for reference purposes, this is the reply we sent you through EBay’s own messaging service;

“I appreciate that the units are far from quiet; you quite rightly compared it to a Hoover, that’s because the inner workings are very similar. There are lots of examples of electrical components that push, or suck air, hair dryers, Hoovers, hand driers etc etc. They all make a noise. However, Given that you report the unit as making an excessive noise we can’t discount the possibility that the unit itself maybe faulty”

We went on to suggest some simple diagnostics in order to determine if the machine was faulty, had this been the case we would have gladly replaced it. We still await a reply to this email. I reiterate, Spain is a long way to send any electrical component so we can’t discount the possibility that your unit may have been damaged in transit. If you are in any doubt at all or you feel your expectations have not been met, please return it to us and we will issue a full refund.

For the record, anybody unfamiliar with turbine technology will be surprised at first, particularly if they have been used to Compressor based systems. In the past it could take up to 20 minutes to spray a client with an airbrush/compressor system, compare this to just a few minutes with a turbine; In my opinion, the noise level is an acceptable trade off for speed of application. As all good therapists know, time is money and if you can do three tans in the time it used to take to do one, this can’t be a bad thing

Lol. :green:

Personally, I don't have a problem with buying from ebay in general, but if a company is selling stuff on ebay and willing to ship to you, but also take orders via their own site or over the phone, I'd rather go straight to the company. Just my preference.

I think this should be an issue between supplier & purchaser .......

Google, research and read owners reviews on items before buying......thats the thing to do......

Same here I now use ebay as a way to find things I want then I go straight to their website.

However please take into account how many people decide one day to start offering spray tanning who have no beauty/hair experience and don't know where to look. Having reputable companies sell on ebay that can also highly recommend training is a plus. Its just a shame for every one good one theres also a bad one.

Research should always be done prior to purchasing equipment and as long as the company has good feedback you will be fine. Just avoid items that you don't know the history of or that are second hand - far too risky. Make sure you get all your manuals and guarantees in the box too so you can go to the manufacturer direct with any problens should you be unable to get hold of the company you bought from, and every 12 months get your equipment PAT tested too!
