Do you not find that that limits you? My main goal is to be able to do anything with anyones hair that walks in the salon door :)

I prefer to specialise is certain aspects, despite being good at hair up x

I have a rule. If it involved more than 5 or 6 kerbies I won't be doing
It. Just have a mental block with them x

I know lots of stylists like you scotty, we all have our strengths and weaknesses!

I MADE myself learn hair up, and it's only been the past 2/3 years, I finally think I've mastered it, well getting there!

Maybe ill be spiral perming in another 10 years! ;) naaaaat!! :p xx

All depends what your demands are in the salon for the ££££! ;)

Not really no lol. It's only one thing I don't do. I'm fully booked doing everything else. Seriously the ones I banged out in college were passable but laughable hahaha x

As we're most people's hair up I'm sure... Standard French pleat and French plait, that's all we had to pass, oh and finger waves and pin curls!xx

I want to become good at hair-up, but I just can't seem to do it well enough to please myself. :\ We didn't have much in-depth training on it in college (perhaps the reason I dislike it...), and my hands shake, which makes handling hair pins annoying, and I think that has a part in not allowing me to achieve a nice smooth finished up-do... I can do a nice chignon, but anything more, I don't think I'll be able to make look good, and I wouldn't feel right about charging the client for it. It really bothers me that I can't do them, as what will I do if I'm working in a salon, it's prom season or something, and I can't do what the client wants? :/ The client will be disappointed, my boss probably angry, and I'll be angry at myself too. ._.

;) alright missy lol I just wish I had more colour clients!

Your the colour king, I love how much knowledge you have, I'll catch up one day! ;)

Don't put too much pressure on yourself.
This is what I did....
Brought a head block she was £30..
eBay sell some hair up DVDs for quite cheap...
Sat down in front of the tv, pins grips clips and hair up brush... Away you go :) xx

Snap haha!! We had to pass very little. My salon boss was happy to let me not do them as some of the girls were so good at them they could do them.
Now I'm self employed I don't want to stress bout it.

You just basically quoted my story. I once had one booked In with me and my brain just froze as soon as a Kerbie grip got involved. I got the shakes. Started sweating and eventually cried hahaha

I'm not a hairdresser but I got one of my stylists to put some layers in my hair a few years ago. She ended up doing it completely wrong and I ended up with the short layers underneath. I don't know how she managed it and my stylist now still can't believe how she did it.
The whole layers were just completely back to front. Luckily my hair grows really quick and at least my longest layer was on the outside so you couldn't really see.
It was time to let that stylist go!!

Thanks...I guess I'll get hold of a mannequin, some DVDs and the other stuff when I've got the money.

Yeahhh...the thought of it fills me with dread. :\ I guess I just need to try and get into it and see what I come up with. Maybe I can do some nice stuff for my portfolio. Who knows. Living in fear of them won't get me anywhere.

I guess. Mabye ill have a bash at it soon. Just for my own piece of mind. In my own head, I can do them. I know how to. Bit translating that to my hands is a different story xx

Yeah, exactly. I can't really visualise them in my head, and I struggle with transferring an up-do from photo to a head of hair. We had some assignments like that in college, and I was near enough in tears and ready to give up on hairdressing because of them.

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one in the world who has trouble with them. Maybe, hopefully, when I get some DVDs, I'll find some stuff in them that will help me...maybe there's a missing link, haha.
