Right....in my new salon,im debating having my nail table or "bar" as some call it,in with my couch as the same room,or having it in the reception room at the salon.....

Im wondering what would be better...do i keep it in reception room or dont i...oh decisions...LOL

I quite like it in my main room as it could be a selling point...its in the reception at my current salon, but im not sure if its a good idea...after all some clients prefer the privacy...but then its a talking point for when the next client comes and they can admire the artistry....which in my case nedds improving...LMAO:lol:

So...for or aginst nail tables in a reception room??

Please fell free to move to biz geek if you want mods...sorry!

The salon I used to work at and the one I went to for treatments both had the nail area where the reception was - pedicures where done in the treatment rooms but not anything else.

Nail bars over here obviously all have the nail stuff in the main room where the reception is. I don't think people are so worried about privacy when they are getting their hands done!!

This is a difficult one Gabi

You will know from our chat yesterday that if you do intend to do L&P then I would not have it in the same area as your couch etc. My nail table is in my treatment room as that is the only place for it to go and I have had comments from clients that they love the privacy of that as they have had to have their treatments in public in other salons.

But, another good reason for the table being in the reception are is other clients can see what you do and are more likely to get clients to go for the same treatment that way.

I know - why not have 2 tables?

Gabi I dont like nail desks/bars in the treatment room the reason being is that you have the smells from the polish, enhancements or polish remover floating around the room for quite a while afterwards. This is NOT nice when carrying out relaxing treatments, such as facials, massage or eyelash tints.

We have 2 desks in the reception area and that's how I like it,however when we carry out pedi's they are in treatment room and I hate that lingering smell. Each to their own of course just my opinion.
As some have already said it's a good focal point for passing trade, they see you carrying out mani's and it gives potential clients inspiration.HTh xx

I could have 2 tables yes theresa...i could rent out another table to a nail tech...aslong as they are mature and already have an existing clientele....i was burnt in the past so reluctant to do that....anyway,thanks for that:hug:

Interesting that you brought this up, I am having the same dilemea. As I will prob be working on my own, do I put the desk in the reception area so I can greet clients when they come in. The other problem I thought was like Theresa said about the privacy issue...I havent yet decided what I want to do

Teresa

if privacy is the issue here, why not invest in a nice screen so that you could screen it off in the reception area? just a thought!

Gabi, if I were you I'd tend to go for the reception area, as has been said previously it's good to let people see your work. I remember before I qualified and went to get my nails done I'd used to love seeing what the previous client had had done.

I'm sure you'll make the right decision, good luck with it all hun.

Thanks babs...this is why im leaning more towards gel enhancements over L&P....its the odour that could lead to a problem...I think though i shall utilise the space ive got and have it in the reception room, with my tester stand and nail colours, and chairs and couch.:)

We do stacks of manicures and never have we had one complaint or moan about lack of privacy,if working alone your next client wouldn't come into the reception til fairly near the end of the manicure anyway, giving the client max privacy if needed.

In an old salon I used to work in we did the pedi's in reception and there were a couple fo clients that did have a little moan about getting their feet out in public(so to speak)Us ladies and our feet eh:green:

I like your nail bar where it is, Gabi. There's better light in your reception room too. Your treatment room has such a lovely atmosphere and is so nice and spacious that I think it would be a shame to take up some of the space with a nail bar.

And if I was having my nails done it really wouldn't bother me if another person was in the room.

just to join in...

The salon which I worked in had the nail bar in the reception area and nobody ever complained, the clients seat faced away from the window where the waiting area was so it was difficult to see the treatment anyway - however many of the clients loved showing off their new talons to other customers!!

If someone preferred a more private treatment we could always use the massage couch (recomend only for manicure) in the treatment room - after all this is how we were taught in college. Also I supposed this is only a good alternative if your couch is not against the wall.

In my new salon I am having my nail bar in the reception area as I think it is a good visual treatment for people to see and gain more business. Manicures/ext are very socialable treatments/topics of conversation and nowadays people want others to know they shell out and have their nails done. I have angled my nail bar so that the client can see into the treatment room also so that they may ask questions about alternative treatments I offer..ie my st tropez spray booth etc, during their treatment.

hope this helps!!
