I agree with this.

I am in no way saying that we should all go to a NSS, and we all know the dangers. BUT from experience I have tried to warn friends of the dangers, told them about hygeine and how a service should be performed etc., they look at me like I am making a big fuss about nothing. My argument about the long term damage falls apart as they have been going there for 3 years.

Its very easy to suck our teeth and shake our heads about NSS and quite rightly but I don't think we should slate someone who has had the courage to see for themselves first hand. This is a trained profesional who can recognise if things were developing and could put them right herself.

I do also have to agree with the point someone made that for every horror story about NSS there are almost as many from people that have been to 'qualified profesionals'

This is a professional site isn't it? We educate our clients about NSS and we should practice exactly as we preach on this subject.
Why do we feel the need to praise the fact that someone has had their nails done by the NSS?
Why do people think we need to go easy on the subject?
I personally wouldn't have the "courage" to see one first hand.
I have more respect for my chosen profession.
JMHO

i agree with the previous posts on here, why the hell would you want to cure your curiosity.............you KNOW they will SHAG the nail plate, and totally ruin your natural nails, you KNOW that MMA is bad, so what the hell possessed you, as a proffessional,i wouldnt dream of going to a nss salon, "just out of curiosity" i pride myself on my education etc, i know whats right and whats wrong, shagging the nail, no prep, and totally distroy your natural nail plate with a drill, so why???????????????????????????????????????????????????

I am not saying we should praise someone for using a NSS, I am saying how else do we know exactly what they do and don't other than by experiencing it first hand.

Yes this is a profesional nail site and NSS are a huge problem, but until a higher body takes action and stops them operating how do you change peoples opinions when a lot of people use them with no ill effects?

i see i have ruffled a few feathers i thought i would shere my experience with you guys as i though you might be intrested exactly what goes on in these salons that we all hear and read about but you all know already.even though you have never been in one umm??

but you all know already.even though you have never been in one umm??

we dont have to go to one of these to suffer the consequences flower, i just pride myself on the education i have. i dont need to go to one of these salons to prove to meself that they are crap, and the damage they do,

I have been in one....once !!...a long time before i became a professional nail tech and didn't know any better. The guy in there had a nail extension on his thumb and it was filed to a point...this is what he used to push back my cuticles....they played Christmas carols....it was July !!!.... ok i know that doesn't make them NSS, but it was odd. xx

personally i dont feel there is any more damage to my nailplate than a unexperienced tech who dosent know how to use a file propely what are you saying everyone who uses a efile shags the nailplate??instead of all judgeing these places by what you are told why not find out for yourselves than when you decide if it is a nss then all slate them.

Ewww thats disgusting!!!!

yeah he pushed my cuticle back with his nail so yes i can say yes i have been there seen it and it is nss.But it is better than assuming and no i wont go back .,

what im saying is why would you want to spend good money on a nss, when you know what these places do- if you want to go to a nss salon, then in my opinion you DONT deserve to be a professional nail tech

instead of all judgeing these places by what you are told why not find out for yourselves than when you decide if it is a nss then all slate them.

because i know better, i have been taught by the best in my opinion, i paid good money for this education, and wouldnt insult my intellegence by going to a nss, the nail industry is trying to put a stop to these types of salons, you obviously dont give a **** whether they do or not - if you love or have the passion, like alot of us geeks do, then you wouldnt come on here, spouting off about going to an NSS, sorry but thats just my opinion, and it gets my back up when we are taught about salons like this, then you (not literally you) go to one of these knowing that they will do everything BUT respect the natural nail plate. sorry flower to rant, but i feel so arrrrgh with these salons

ohh i agree, but i wouldn't go to one of those either...cos as a nail tech myself i would know from the start if she/he was being to rough or using the wrong file...this is my point...as a nail tech i wouldn't go to anyone who i felt was doing the job incorrectly...as a client , sure you may not know...but as a nail tech, you should and that would be why i wouldn't go......its not cos you went to a NSS...its cos a nail tech went to a NSS knowing what you know.

my point is this you cant judge a salon as nss because someone tells you i have been there and seen for myself as i like to make my own mind up on these things.so when a client comes to me and tells me about it i know exactly where she is coming from.Oh and i did walk past a few times to make sure there was no one in there i knew. infact if i had seen one of my clients in there i would have been well p****d of.

infact if i had seen one of my clients in there i would have been well p****d of.

so why put yourself thro this crap? - i can see where you coming from, but why oh why would you want to put your poor nails thro this trauma, you say she didnt do this or that, what would you have done if she had used an e-file and filed right thro your natural nail ? then what - would you have sued them

sorry flower, but i just cant see WHY you would put yourself thro this

he did use a a e-file and i had no pain wot so ever and like i said before i have had my nails done in the past by so called good techs and they burnt and cut me i had none of this today. If he had of put a hole in my nail plate i would have stuck it where the sun dont shine

all i can say to that then flower is .................get on with it and if and when you get nasty nails from your experience, dont come crying to the geeks for help. if you end up with onycholysis, leukonychia etc, thats your problem

well all i can say is flower - if you get an infection, or onycholisis, dont come crying about it....... its your decision at the end of the day.

i would have thought as being a pro tech, you would have thought better

sorry if i ruffled your feathers flower, but i feel very strongly about nss, and try to educated my clients about these types of salons - and i certainly wouldnt recommend them

Would I have done this, nope, in all honesty I wouldn't have and I doubt you will do it ever again lol.....
I would have just looked through the window and watched lol... I still do this, I find is fascinating how clients just sit there and let them do all this stuff ....
No client consultation or record cards.. hmmmm... No sanitation full stop....pushing back cuticles with thumb nail great, he is using his hard nail to push down on very soft nail plate, to push away non living tissue yea right!.... check out for dents on your nails as the nail grows , it will look like a habit tick....using an efile to remove shine, yea righty ho, did he use a specialised coated drill bit for this? I bet he didn't go with the direction of the nail growth, he didn't remove shine he removed Keratin, so anything will stick now, the nail plate is so rough that it will look like Velcro under a microscope and even fluff would stick to this until the next re-balance never mind L&P...E-file to shape the nail, OK did he display any certificates that show you that he had e-file training, did he use a sanitised bit at all ? Check your cuticle area again in a week or two, did he manage to remove just a little to much keratin and left you with a nice little groove?
There is so much more to being a great Nail Technician then to just have a great line of light......I could get one of those with a Black and Decker....

Well you said it only took 40 Min's and you came out with a lovely set of nails only cost 32.00 quid... Well Hun you didn't you came out with possible nail plate damage that will take 6 months to grow out....
NSS stands for Non Standard Salon.... and yes it was one of those... MMA has got very little to do with this... the standard of a good and sound salon will leave you with fab and healthy nails and if the line of light isn't spot on then that is just a tiny minus point and something that is not ruining your nail plate....its just lack of expertise but not lack of respect to a healthy nail..

I would have been out of that salon as soon as he used his thumb nail to push back my cuticles.......that would have stopped my curiosity in its tracks and shown me right away it's an NSS alright.....

and yes granted there are some Technicians that still cause plenty of damage to a nail plate by using a hand file.... but would I check those out?.... nope I would take a clients words for that and just make sure I would and will never do that myself.....
To be honest I am more interested in the kick butt nail Technician competition I have then the NSS ones..... A kick butt Nail Technician will give me a great run for my money, a NSS will just increase my profits, as I have to sort out there greenies, Onycholisis and other crappy stuff.....
But I know how to do that I have the education.... they just have well not sure what they have... Oh yes a very cheap service on offer....

Just my £1 worth on this...... inflation and all that xxxx
Like Glynis said, I am not here ruffling your feathers, but I think it was a drastic step just to see if they are xxx

Thanks Kay for sharing your experience with us!:) OBVIOUSLY not many would - so thanks!

i know exactly what goes on through alot of my clients who are ex nss..they are always pleased to witness my sanitation, distenfection procedures..they dont have rings of fire..nails are soaked off NOT prised off..permament french is done the proper way..no cookie cutting or airbrushing or white tips on nail biters:eek: proper prep which takes 20 minutes (half the time it takes them to complete the whole service). i dont use my efile to finish off the enhancement or on the natural nail. NSS are all about cutting costs and corners to save THEMSELVES money at the price of the clients health and safety. i havent seen ANY nss nails that have good form..a pic would be good for all of us to see.
i can understand your curiousity of this nss (was it the one your client went back to?) but i cant understand how you can praise this salon..their hygeine is appalling..not to mention using his fingernail for "cuticle work"..has everything you have learned on the geek and your training gone over your head?

I have never felt the need to try one of these salons as I can see perfectly well the damage they have done when one of their clients comes to me.

In my opinion, you have as a professional made an error of judgement that is going to cost you in terms of your natural nails for a while, but if you have learnt something from it, then at least that is something I suppose.
