:?:Hi all,
Just wondering if you could tell me what you think, I started a course from home with Kilroy's College in Dublin in April and finished at the end of the summer on Manicure and Pedicure which I was happy enough with:), then in October of this year I went to Galway on a two day course to learn gel & acrylic (The Edge) but the tutor also offered to teach us silk/fibreglass and tip and dip. She did a demonstration on each system i.e. gel/L&P/Silk/TipandDip, of course everyone thought Tip and Dip was amazingly easy especially when she told us that it was pracitcally the same as acrylic and would last just as long etc. but she would only have time to teach us three systems so everyone voted to cut out the L&P as we were under the illusion Tip and Dip was better (she also told us this was a new system on the market which I have discovered it isn't its been around for at least 10 years:mad:) I feel I've been had, I've done a few of these sets since then for clients and they've not been happy with them as they've lifted or broke etc. Also I'm having a lot of trouble with gel as we really only spent one day learning it but the tutorials here have pointed out a few mistakes I was making.

Basically, I feel im almost ruined before I started as I have started doing nails from home and I'm probably getting a bad reputation for all the bad sets that have been done. Im thinking of doing a Creative Nail Design course in Dublin in the new year as I have heard great things about them and I want to be properly trained as I feel I haven't even though the courses I've done cost a lot of money I'm still not confident.

Sorry for the big rant but it just makes me so angry to think of all the time I've wasted:cry: What do you guys think, is the Creative course the way to go....

Hey Kat,

Don't be so hard on yourself, as you said you were taking the tutor's word. If you were experienced in enhancements you would have know firstly that it's been around ages and also that 'experts' can make any system look easy. I don't think you can learn what you really need from a two day course, being shown how to do something is the easy part, actually mastering it yourself is the difficult bit. Troubleshooting is the more valuable part of training in my opinion and so I don't particularly like home courses or intensive one/two day 'courses'. What you need is to do a course over a number of weeks where your tutor can see exactly where you are going wrong and has the time to help you correct it. Also pratice most definatly makes...well good, I won't say perfect because even though I'v been at this quite a few years, I still can't ever bring myself to say I'm perfect. I'll always notice something tiny. But I am good enough to produce beautiful, natural looking enhancements that I know will last. I think it's a great idea to book yourself into the creative course in the new year, I know you've already spend alot of money, but I think it would be worth it. Also, when you are starting off, dont take on 'real' clients, I also made that mistake and the first couple of real money paying clients I had, never came back to me haha!! Practice on yourself, or a nail trainer or a good friend that wont take advantage!!

Thanks for being sympathetic. I know now that's the mistake I've made by taking 'real' clients who will now probably never return to me. Also I have two more appointments between now and christmas that have been booked for ages and I don't know what to do, I don't want to disappoint them by cancelling this late and also disappoint them by giving them enhancements that they will assume to last over the christmas but im not confident that they will:cry: Im definetly going to do the creative course as soon as I can get the money together but it will prob be in February of next year:rolleyes:

Stop stressing hun!! If you honestly don't feel confident doing them, then call them and explain, if you know them perhaps ask if they would like to be models when you do your course. If you know of any tech's in your area that you think are good and not totally booked coming up to Christmas, then maybe suggest she/he does them until you feel your totally up to it. I think if you took on two more clients that you didn't feel confident doing and then came back to you with complaints or problems then your confidents would be shattered and you might not do the course in the new year. Chin up hun, we all went through this at the start!!

Hiya Kat Don't worry about it but yes a lot have been in your position me being one of them did a week course paid over five hundred and I only learnt dip and tip too it does have it's market I would say great for weekend nails but that's just my opinion.
As for extra training yes go for it the more the better I have now done 7 courses and am in the middle of an EN sculpture course which have to say I am loving, next year going to do EzFlow and CND as they are the most talked about on here then whatever comes next.
I would advise you to invest in a nail trainer and practise as much as you can you can pick them up off ebay or buy form essential nails as they let you pay in stages eg £20 a month or sommat like that, another way is nail varnish bottle blue tack stick the nail on then practise your application that way, but the nail trainer is good for mastering blending tips and tip application there is so much to learn.
So all I can say is Good Luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

Hi don't worry it happens to most of us, i did a course with edge and to be honest wish i didn't, the nails never lasted the product 'sorry' wasn't that good, they teach you so many systems in one day and expect you to learn all 3 in one go, you should take one system at a time 'well that's what i think anyway' and reputable companies such as creative nails is a good way forward glad i did it. Good luck x

Thanks girls I feel a bit better now:confused:. I spoke to my boyfriend about it last night and he admitted that he didn't know what to get me for xmas so if I really wanted to do the CND course he would help me pay for it, which I was delighted with so I'm going to try to get in for January soon as I can:hug:
