Hey there ladies just wondered if anyone else gets pain in the joint of their thumb on their gripping/non brush holding hand?

Im finding that Im putting a lot of pressure on my thumb whilst gripping the clients fingers and it probably doesnt help that my thumbs do slighlty bend back on themselves naturally, but Im suffering with a real achy thumb after just one client sometimes.
I do try to relax the thumb but then I cant keep the fingers Im working on steady enough.

Any advice or just sympathy! would be much appreciated.
p.s Im also a reflexologist and do get achy thumbs doing that but not as bad..maybe I have dodgy thumbs!

I get it too...but when i relax and don't grip so much it eases up...i find that its those who hold there hands stiff or in the wrong position, it helps heaps when the clients hand is relaxed.

yep me too!!
especially the clients with erect fingers!!!

relax ******* you!!!

lol thanks Im just too uptight!!

I get that too. I'm thinking I might be getting bursitis, but not sure. Stretch, rest as much as possible, and take an NSAID like ibuprofen or naproxen to reduce inflammation. Also try ice. :)

I get a cramp in the muscle of my thumb and found I have to use an over grip instead of the undergrip and it has helped a lot.

Don't always think of the client, think of yourself:!::!:

Your hands provide you with your income.

Massage you own hands at least 3 times a week, I do this using pure Emu Oil and (touch wood) I'm still going strong.

How often do you massage your own hands ?

I too have hyperflexous joints and it can cause problems when doing nails - especially in colder weather (yes we do get cold weather in Spain) and it is important to relax your hands and look after them the way you tell everyone else to! Anti inflamatory medicines do help but massage does as well. Keep trying to get your client to relax and you the same.

I think most of us have experienced this. I had it at first but if the client relaxes their hand I am fine.

I tell my clients to relax or they will cause me discomfort. Clients don't realize that you are the one who pays if they make you over stretch or feel tense.

I just say they must do as i say or i will end up not being able to do their nails.:)

hey thanks ladies, I do feel much better that it isnt just me and Im going to take up massaging my hands and looking after them more..you know what is like when you have kids and work and you take no time to look after yourself..but these babies are my living and very very important!

thanks again

I get it 2.. by the end of the week they hurt like hell ... soak and a massage on a sat afternoon always helps xx

I have hypermobile joints and suffer badly with this on both of my hands, even relaxing them doesnt work most times. i suffer more with the evening clients than I do with the daytime ones to the point that I have to keep stopping and shake my hands to get the feelings back in them and the aching to stop.

When I get up in a morning my left thumb is stuck solid and it takes about an hour for it to bend:cry:

I get it in both my thumbs. :irked: And sometimes I loose the feelings in my little and ring-finger. Anybody else???

I get it too, but the feeling goes up my arm too. It sometimes feels like ive pulled a muscle in my upper arm. I agree it definately helps if the clients hands are relaxed. Im often bending out their stiff fingers. x

I get this, I found that having a towel under my arm where it rests on the desk helps as it's almost trapping the nerve and stopping blood flow if I just rest on desk with nothin underneath.

My chiro told me that ring and little finger is carpal tunnel and middle, nagger and thumb is radial tunnel, carpal being underneath arm (on desk) and radial running down top of arm. (i'm almost positive I got that right lol but dont quote me on it) So it would be easy to lose the feeling in your little and ring finger by resting it on the edge of a table for a long time.
