I'm not talking about greenies, I am referring to recycling in our industry, lol.

I was painting my toes last night in front of the telly and had placed a piece of rolled kitchen paper towel between my tootsies. Nearly took the fresh enamel off when I removed the paper towel! That would be really annoying .

In front of me was a package which I had received earlier in the day containing polystyrene batons used for protecting the items in the package. I suddenly decided to use the batons instead between my toes. It worked a treat as all I had to do was slip each one out afterwards without risk of smudging the enamel.

Then I thought, surely I could use these in my business instead of toe separators and rolled cotton or paper towel? It cuts down on expenses and helps to cut down of waste which is filling our land fill sites.

There is so much talk these days about waste and going green. These batons get reused from packaging to pedicures and are soft and comfy for the client.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you do anything in your business to help the environment? Please feel free to comment.

Well that is a great inventive idea Tracey. I have just thrown a load of these away too!

How comfortable did they feel in between your toes?

Very comfortable, more so IMO than paper towel and genuine toe separators. They are very soft and pliable so the toes mould into them a bit yet still keeping them separated.

The double batons can be cut in half very easily. I did this and they were just as comfy.

Fantastic idea and I expect very comfortable.

In our business we call them 'wee bob squiggles' (don't ask me why) and they are made of puffed rice, not polystyrene so they do break down and the birds like them too!! Don't get them wet though ... they go icky!!
Perhaps they'd be good with milk and sugar for breakfast too?? lol
Nice colour by the way.

Thanks for pointing that out Gigi. I wasn't 100% sure if they were polystyrene, but that was all I could think of, lol. And how doubly fantastic to know that they are biodegradable. I'm even more excited now :green:.

What a great idea! Thank you xx

I had tonnes of these and passed them on to my daughters nursery for art and craft lessons. They have just asked me if I have anymore lol.

Rachel xx

Lol, as Gigi said, they go very gooey when wet. My youngest daughter has come home with these on her artwork to Rach. That is probably why they are so handy for the kids to use because they are made from puffed rice, therefore fairly safe to use.

Well I won't be getting rid of these anymore. I'll be saving them for pedicures :).

Fantastic idea thank you for sharing. I will your pass idea onto my students if you don't mind, they are all for being 'green'.

Just an idea, but to make them look more professional I think I will put mine in sets of 8 into some (recycled) tissue paper and then in a pretty box.
