Good morning..I've just completed my vtct in nail enhancements. Our tutor never showed us how to treat someone for an infill/rebalance for someone who has white tips. How would this be done?..I know how to infill around the cuticle, it's just the smile line i'm wondering about.

Couldnt believe it when I read that you hadnt been taught how to do this-thats quite ridiculous as this is one of the most common thretments!
Anyway, you would file down zone 1-the white tip so that it is almost see-through (very, very thin) then 2 and 3 as you would a normal infill.
Then, apply the white but move the smile line down slightly towards the cuticle so that you are taking into account the fact that the natural nail has now grown a few millimetres.
Then, continue on with product application in zones 2 and 3.

are you on about white tips that are pre ready or sculpting on the white yourself?
as it is difficult to get the white tips thin and nearly see-through if the stuck on with resin, and if you are inexperienced the last thing you want to do is over file the nail, causing a heat reactin to the clients nail beds or make them sore.

My tutor did not show me either, I only learnt through this forum!!

that is really bad! if i was u i would demand my money back as she hasnt shown u the key things you will be doing through out your career. most nail teks spend most of the time doing maintenance work than fresh sets and not show you how to infill a smile line is terrible.
thing is i was once in your shoes i did a BTEC beauty course and nails was apart of that, thankfully i was already trained in nails through EZ flow but it was terrible that i knew more than the teacher and was having to show my fellow students how to infill a smile line, i did say something but it wasnt like the course was a total waste as i got my beauty qualification out of it to.

Yes..i meant the white forms not the applied acrylic pink and white.

I did the BTEC course aswell! I then went on to do a conversion for CND, and now am practising large amounts, before doing a skill building course. Maybe its just those who do BTEC courses who dont learn nails well lol x

You need to thin the old product as much as you can and the replace the smile line using white powder.

If confidence using white powder is an issue for you and that's why white tips are preferred, you could always apply a white tip and overlay with white and pink, using the smile as your white tip as a guide for sculpting your white on top, which can be good practice for getting into your white powder. maybe it is just us BTEC girls, we didnt even get shown how to sculpt (not appart of the criteria anymore) even though that is what i mainly do.
our tutor couldnt even tell some products apart
e.g. NSI disolve and line out one was for infills the other to help with blending in tips and she didnt even no.

hi there,
in my experience infills have always been separate likewise maintenance I'm not sure whether anyone else apart from cathie has experienced this/knows this

What do you mean "seperate likewise maintenance"?

I was not taught this either, i am thinking about going and doing another course as the course i did was nearly 10 years ago and i have never really done anything with it, which leads me to my question: what if its a french tip (not sculptured), what do you do then with UV gel???

You thin out over the tip (prep the rest of the nail) and add white gel in that area and do the rest of the nail. as normal.

maybe there is hope, i finished my btec 3years ago, and in my artificial nail module we had to have assessments on full sets (tip&overlay and sculpts), infill and rebalance!
