ok i have a major problem...i wasnt too worried.....but i am now!
I did my friends nails a few weeks ago and everything was fine....couple of weeks later I infilled them...it was hardwork...product was thick and lots of lifting....I soaked 2 off and replaced them...the rest I infilled as best I could ( she didnt have much time but needed them tidying up for the weekend).. so i said i wanted to soak them off asap the following week cos they didnt look great!

So anyway after a couple of days she text me and said she had a rash on both her thumbs and surrounding hand....smooth rash colour on skin, is itchy on and off. She said she gets exactly the same thing sometimes in the winter or after using cleaning products.
So I thought she may have an underlying skin condition that obviously gets aggravated with certain things...I told her to go to docs to find out for sure.....its been a few days since then and she hasnt had time to go to the docs or see me to soak her nails off and have a look at the rash...ive asked her twice when shes free but not heard back!

So shes now text me again tonight....she says her nails look healthy but her hands look brown and scarred! ....yes you read that right SCARRED....she says its just her thumbs and the skin around...its dark brown like its stained with tan with red mottled effect....it doesnt itch...isnt scaley....isnt sore and shes never had a reaction like it before!

Christ what is it...does anybody know...please tell me it can be sorted

Hiyah
IMO this sounds like an allergic reaction to product remover or it could be contact dermatitis, she must really go to the doctors to get it checked out.

but the only thing that went all over her hands was the sanitiser spray, i only soaked 2 nails off with acetone which werent on the thumbs either.

She could have had an allergic reaction to something in the santiser, my friend had an reaction when I used a different nail oil on her she came out in little brn/red blisters and her hand was scaley.

I don't think it should be you that's panicking - it should be her :!:

Hasn't had time to see a doctor? Does she value her health or what? Sorry to sound so harsh, but if I came out with a rash which turned into scarring I would be beating the door down to my doctors.

You did the right thing suggesting she see a doctor but at the end of the day it is her call. It is not your job to sort out what is wrong with her hands. If the doctor says it is an allergic reaction then you may be able to help with discovering what she is sensitive to but until it is diagnosed I would not even speculate. Personally I would even hesitate at using product remover until it has been sorted out what the problem is. I know we all like to be helpful and want to learn about all these things, but the client has had advice and she should take it. The only other thing you could suggest is that if she really doesn't want to take the time to visit the doctor she could call into her local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to take a look.

Cheers,
Hazel

It could be a reaction to anything, not just the nail products. She should get to a doc asap, she may be able to get referred to a dermatologist if the case is bad. If she gets reactions to cleaning products, it could be that her skin is super sensitive and she's come into contact with somethings that's spurned on a reaction. As I said though, it could be anything, hell, I'm allergic to central heating, go figure that one out! Lol x

I have some pictures although you cant see much on them....

Bless ya you are having a nightmare time of it lately aren't you.??
Hun it does sound a little bit like over exposure, when I first started out d I had the same sort of reaction when I did my own nails although I was careful not to get any product on my skin there may have been a bit of seepage onto it I also got tiny water blisters around my lateral folds and cuticle area as well as anywhere the DUST (not just liqued) had settled on my skin, the longer her nails are left on the worse it will get. She may have got sensitised and that is why it is getting worse.
She needs to go to the docs and get treatment and also have the nails removed.
This is just in my opinion, she needs a proper medical opinion though hunni.
:hug:to you.

I may be wrong but I dont think it is over exposure (altho possible as she has had her nails done many times before at NSS) but her nails and surrounding skin are fine....no blisters or anything like that...the problems she is having are on the skin of her hands rather than around the nails and on the fingers.

I have had a few probs lately havent i! lmao....well...i have only recently started practising on real hands so i hardly expected to have an easy time....I guess these problems will only help me learn more at the end of the day! (hey i have to console myself somehow!lol)

Could be from where the dust settled on her skin. I had the same problem in exactly the same place as hers and it was everytime I filed the dust. I went all dry and scaly and after I realised why and got some cream from docs I havent had a problem since

I am panicing cos its all my fault! I will tell her to pop in the pharmacy..thats a good idea.

Yes i suppose thats a possibility, I just keep having it in the back of my mind tho that its the hand sanitiser as thats what i sprayed all over her hands. But if it was that...wouldnt the rash just heal up after a few days providing something else doesnt irritate it further ??

so i shouldnt use acetone to soak them off incase she has an allergy to that....which means id have to file her nails off....but then theres a chance it could be the dust that has caused the problem...i think i shall order her to the docs and not do anything to them until shes been

It just looks like she has been sensitive towards something, my skin gets like this when I have touched something it doesn't like (I picked up a leaky bottle of bubblebath in Tesco's the other day that I am allergic to and gained an instant red rash on the back of my hands...it's easily done).

Tell her to take a piriton and get to the docs, he'll fix her with a cream that'll take the rash

oh great.....just spoke to her and said she must go to docs asap....she started laughing saying she doesnt need to go to docs.....so i said i cant do anything else to them...i cant soak them off, file them off or put new ones on until shes been to the docs.....so she says she doesnt need to see doc she isnt bothered..shell just have to cut and pick them off for now
