I have a 'friend' / client wanting a tan for her wedding, we did a trial on Monday night using 10% sienna and in my opinion she looked too tanned...........so........... we are going to trial the 8.5% which I think will be better for her, she is getting wed on a Saturday so my question is when would you spray her? on the Thursday perhaps? she wanted to be sprayed on the Monday beforehand and I said I think leaving it 5 days is a little long?? Also she is worried that the tan will rub off on her dress under the arm area and show, is there anything I can dust over the under arm area to stop this?

I would also do it on a Thursday in fact I was spraying a bride yesterday ready for her wedding on Saturday.

Definitely! I would also spray no later than Thursday. Remember - less is more for a wedding - don't want her looking too dark on her wedding day!:)

Defo spray on thursday if she has it on the monday it will of started to wear off by the sat and could look uneven. The tan shouldnt rub off on her dress if she has it 2 days befor saying that i had a slight bit where my underarms were and around my bodice but it was on the inside no one saw anything and it came out when i got my dress cleaned . The dress was so dirty at the bottom after all that dancing!!

I agree do it on the thursday,
when you do her next spray trial take in a white bathrobe so you can both see how it looks against a full body of white clothing hth
and any transfer onto the dress should come off easy enough when it is cleaned so that should not be a problem

Tan Thursday for a saturday wedding and tan from below her armpit and let the overspray darken that area slightly then there wont be any rubbing off

I use vani-t and it doesn't rub off at all not sure about sienna. Definitely spray on thurs :)

I would use talk only under the ****s on the day if necessary (if it's hot) and not armpits as it will clump with the deodorant.

minimum of course I agree spraying on the Thursday is the optimum time to allow the tan to develop properly(whichever brand)

But you do have one slight problem with this senario...
Your customer is happy with the 10% but you feel it to dark(probably absolutely right there as who wants to marry a umpa lumper )

IMO a bride should look radiant her skin should not clash with the colour of her outfit:eek:
So the dilemma her is that ,despite what you think as a professional,if you spray her with the 8.5% her expectations of the tan outcome may not meet her wishes...I.E. she seems to want to be an umpa lumper bride (well at least its better than being a Godzilla one:eek:)

This is her biggest day of her life......I feel you should get her back in to see you in advance of Thursday..sit her down ..express your professional opinion..go through the pros and cons but please ensure you tell her that whatever % you apply on Thursday cant really be reversed...(ok if you use the 8.5 you can add to the tan Friday eve in an emergency but thats not really good as possible initial colour guide rubbing off onto nice white dress may occur)

Really do sit her down and go through the whole scenario with her in advance of thursday...she will thank you for it if you help make her day a special one

I personally prefer to use a solution with little or no guide colour for wedding tans. The rub off from any solution comes from the guide colour not from the resultant tan, and whilst you can run your 100% cotton bedsheets through the laundry and tumble dry no problem if a little of your tan comes off on them overnight, you simply can't do that with a wedding dress.

Silk and satin are also the most prevalent fabrics for staining. If you are thinking of doing this and future bridal tans it may pay to invest in a extra bottle of colourless solution that defintely won't stain and get a bit of practise in applying it first.

And its specialising in little things like that, that will mean your reputation will precede you and you'll get future wedding enquiries too! Lets put it this way, we have one salon in a town near me that has a reputation for spraying their brides a funny orange stripey colour...the hairdressers in the same building are now passing people my cards, telling them to come to me for it done right!

I personally would only ever tan a bride with 5%. There is no way I would tan a bride more than that. Nothing more 'orrible looking at brides photos where she is a totally different colour from her new hubby! :) Unless she's like that all the time:)

But hey at least you're doing right in having a trial first and trying to get your client to go lighter. Best of luck!

Darn right there Yvonne ...good Grief from a guy's perspective we want to marry the woman ...not the complete fake one  good to wake up in the morning with the woman you actually thought you were marrying rather than the one you don't recognise

...ok a little of everything whacked on makes the picture look a better one but she still has to be there somewhere

i would tan on a thursday and like yvonne i would use a 5% - 8 at a push but less is more with a bride.

imo

i'd do 8.5% sienna, it will look lovely and natural.. also do it on the Thursday like already said, better still if you can do the groom, mothers, bridesmaids etc then no one looks odd lol lol :green: :green:

Ok I have had another chat with her and I have said I would like to trial the 8.5% on her before the wedding and asked her to wear a white **** tube type top the following day and come back and see me. She likes being really brown and she does look good but I have been honest with her which I hope she appreciates:eek: so we will have a further trial, I sprayed the groom with the 8.5% and he looked great, I am having the whole wedding party I think 6 bridesmaids, bride, groom, mums........should be a good avert for me ( if it doesnt go wrong) will let you know the outcome of the 8.5%

Well done ..I do think this situation did need you to sit the customer down and have a good long talk with her.
So some good additional business with all the rest of the party.
Well done and good luck on the day...do let us know how it all turned out now wont you??

Good luck with it all hunny

Great idea about using the colourless solutions for tanning, would EOS be ok to use?

Also, do you all charge for trial tanning or do you just put your 'wedding tans' prices up more than a normal one?

I personally feel that people who get married pay far too much already purely due to the fact the word 'wedding' is put in front of things, so I wouldn't charge more for the fact it's for a wedding, but you still need to account for your time, solution used and of course advice and expertise.

What do you all do?

xx

I havent charged for the trial runs as she is a 'friend' of mine but I will charge on the day for her and the wedding party but at a discounted rate because there are so many of them. I am just going to trial the 10% on myself (if my hubby can drag himself upseatis to spray me):)

I charge normal rate for trial runs...
