Hi :)

I am currently embarking on a mission lol.
I had my training majorly stuffed up by my training provider, and am putting together some info on what they did wrong, and what I expected from them etc. Not to mention the fact that I was totally ripped off.

I am hoping you lovely ladys could help me on my way by telling me what you got from your training providers, for example, how much time did your tutor spend doing demonstrations? What kind of teaching was in place for the theory side of things? (like did they stand at the front of the class and teach you, or did you get thrown a book and told to 'learn this').
When you were doing practical practise, how much time did your tutor spend instructing you as you worked?

Thanks in advance for any info :)

Hi
I trained at Creative and ALL demonstrations were shown to us by our instructor at the front of the class then we went and practised. While practising she would walk around and help us individually.
On the theory side we had our booklets infront of us while we went through each section and took notes and looked at the board while she was going through each stage.
Hope this helps, fell free to pm me if you would like to know anything else

i totally agree - my education was fab, small classes so each and everyone got quality time with the educator and they stay with you till your light bulb goes on

When i first trained, back in 1986, it was in a classroom setting with the teacher up front and a blackboard.....we had a textbook and that was used for reference or homework (yes, we had homework, nail physiology; medical conditions contraindications, etc; types of manicures/pedicure procedures; types of systems - silk, linen and l&p).

When it was time to do the practicals, we worked on each other, if I remember correctly, we had to do at least three sets with tips and three sets with metal forms (to sculpt), and three natural nail overlays. At least one set had to be in each of the systems.

When we sat the test(s) - we had to do the academy test and we had to do the state licence exam, it reminded me of when I took my school leaving exams....it was tough and very strict.

That course was three hours a night for three months before we could sit our exams.

On my journey here, I got in contact with the EZFlow educator over here in the Hutt, and she sent me all the info on the foundation. It seems that a lot of the same things are covered, in a five day foundation. A lot of it is familiar with me because I took the class twenty odd years ago, so I'm confident that the theory won't be so much of a problem. I

In my case 'm more worried about the pink and whites, cos that was one thing WE DID NOT do back then. I've practiced on my own the past five odd years, and I still think my P&W sucks. I'm also thinking that there will be a learning curve with the product itself because the technology now is so much different than then. I've been using TT, and I notice the difference between the original powders and Prizma in that range (I prefer the latter actually truth be told).

Anyway, PM me and I can give you the name and number of the EZFlow lady cos I think its probably the closest for you too over there in Kapiti.

Peace,
Nancy

I agree here that most but not all education establishments follow this way of instruction. The educator will demo what you need to do and then walk around the class to check you are ok with what you have been asked to do.

To add a little more to this when I am training a class either in college or for Young Nails I also do question and answer sessions or a quick quiz throught the day to help refresh the student's with theory and find that this works very well.

Hope this helps

I did level 2 nail services at my local college when I qualified I went onto do CND L+P and Spa conversion courses followed by a skill building at CND. I'm also doing Level 3 nails at college but I intend to carry on with CND as well as far as I can.

I've found that the tutors demo the work then go round the class to see how each student is doing. All my classes have been less than 10 even with local college but I guess its turned out lucky that way.

I do prefer CND training over college as I think the products are much better and subject knowledge is much greater and I feel much more confident with their training. There have been times with college that I have secretly questioned certain techniques or information passed onto the students, but thats just my own personal experience. hth's

Thanks for all the replies so far :)

I unfortunately didnt get any of that stuff when I was studying. Most of what I got was a tutor who sat in the corner of the room reading her book, no demonstrations, no going through the theory or anything.

Oh and a non CND educator attempting to teach us CND enhancements.

I would have been better off going it alone and buying dodgy products off the internet and learning from the internet, cos thats pretty much what I've had to do, could have saved myself $3500.

Hi. Do I understand you correctly. You were trained by CND? And your tutor had not used the product? When and where did you train.

I have been on 4 creative courses in the past 2 years and have found them very thorough. Foundation course had 4 students and the other three only had 3 students. I am very interested to hear back from you. Please feel free to PM me if you want to converse.

Rebecca

After re-reading I am wondering if I have mis-understood. You have not filled out your profile with enough details. Who did you train with?

I think it sounded more like a trainer who had never used CND trying to teach CND....which i find odd, how on earth can she teach you how it works if she doesn't know herself. Its not just a case of knowing how to teach L&P...not all products are applied in the same way with the same prep...Only a CND educator should be teaching CND products IMO

Ok to clear things up... :)

I dont really want to say too much on here as I know that this forum is known by the college I went to...
But I will just say that I chose the course as it was using CND products, but by the end of my course CND pulled their relationship with the college, because the CND educator that was working there had left, and they werent happy with the education being given.
So I missed out on all of my CND certs, and definately feel that I am nowhere near the standard to have them anyway.
SO, $3500 down the drain and a waste of a whole year.

I did get the CND NZ training schedule in the post and there is going to be a class in Masterton in February and another one in Wellington CBD in June of next year. To be honest, I was absolutely NOT amused by the response I got from CNDNZ when I first enquired about training, etc, but then Geeg explained to me that there has been a management change down in Nelson HQ and that I should take that into consideration with the issues I was having.

As I said to you before, I'm going to do the EZFlow cos its right here in the Hutt, but eventually I will do the conversion to CND....If you want the information I got from CND, PM me with your addy, etc, and I'll send it over the hill to you (he he he).

The other option is I can send you EZF info too and maybe if you are willing to get a week off work, and traverse Haywards Hill to come on over we could arrange to do the EZF class together. Its more than half off what you paid for the college course.

Hey :)
Im quite suprised about the respose you got from CNDNZ, I was on the ph to her last week regarding my certs (that I am still being promised by the college ) and she was ever so helpful and has said she is going to help me with some contacts and stuff to rectify the issues with the college.

Now, I would LOVE to do more training, in fact im dying to! BUT the only way I could do it is if student loans are available for the courses you mentioned. I would be keen for either CND or EZFlow, so would u know if there are student loans available for these courses? Otherwise I am out of luck because unless I can get a refund from my college course, I have absolutely no money to fund these.
Thanks for ya message :)

I have to agree with everything here. I am doing my 3rd day of the Creative Foundation course tomorrow and we have a small group of students (7). Our trainer, Wendy, has demonstrated the techniques and sends us off to practise but she is on hand for whenever we encounter problems...which is every 5 minutes with me at the minute :green: The only downside of the course is the room we are in...the training is held in a community type centre and in our room there's very little ventilation unless the windows are wide open.

CND do offer finance on their courses, that I know. I'm so glad that my experience was a one off cos I really do want to do a conversion course with CND in Wellington next June.

As far as EZ Flow, there is nothing in the info I got about finance, but you can ask, as all I have is that they offer free accommodation if you do the training in Whakatane, as long as you live more than 2 hours away.

Ring EZ Flow at 07 304 6245 or the education line at 0800 624 583. I will also ask the tutor when she rings me later as well, so if I get any news, I'll let you know.
:)

Hi sweetie, just got off the horn with Cherie from EZ Flow. EZ Flow themselves do not offer finance anymore, but you can go through WINZ or StudyLink. I can tell you that StudyLink isn't as horrific as WINZ, as I've actually applied through there for another course that I wound up not taking in the end (it was cancelled) but they are really helpful.

I had this when i trained at college. The products were NSI but My lecturer had never used NSI before and if we had a question about the products or techniques we had to wait till the next week till she had asked NSI:cry:. It was very frustrating, I eventually just went and trained with NSI myself. People really should have a knowledge before they are allowed to teach.

Aw M8 try not to worry too much I'm sure Creative will sort you out and you'll get your certs as for the college someone has accredited them to be able to teach the course lodge your complaint with them and maybe they will send you to another of there colleges.
I have sat several different product companies training, went to college to get my ITEC and now teach - You get the good the bad and the ugly unfortunetly. Hopefully the info that you learned will help you and when the time is right and you've saved up you can re-start your career with CND

Hey thanks for all the messages everyone...

As for getting my certs, CND has already told me straight that I wont be getting them, even though I sat the tests and passed months ago :(
I am in the process of putting together info to make complaints and stuff, so hopefully ill get some kind of refund.
Going to another one of the colleges is out of the question because A: I moved away from the area and B: they havent fixed their tutoring issues and have changed products.

Thanks again :)

 It sounds like quite a few of you got better training than I did. I trained with a company here in Canada and at the start of the class I was already doing nicer nails than the teacher. They were rude and ran every othere gel line into the ground. They spent more time slamming the other campanies out there than they did teaching. I completed the training and then found myself spending $$$$ to get additional training and learn what I felt I didn't get from my training. On top of that it took them 6 months after I completed my testing (finished top of my class) to get my certification from them.

It has been 3 years and I still am looking for more training!!! I would love to become an educator for one of the companies that I am using products from so that I can start giving all of us nail techs out there education we all deserve!!!!
