I love it and it is single most money maker that i have . it time and cost effective where else cant make 15.00 for 4-5 minutes of work.

why not get her to use sugar on the eyebrow area, it wont stick to the skin as it only sticks to the hairs, its a lot gentler on facial areas , also could the clinet have thin skin due to using steroids , retin A etc ... although your therapist should have already found this out prior to treatment , hth

I don't do much waxing, and i don't especially enjoy it, although it's nice to have variety.

I'm not really a very good advert for my waxing services, as I am a bit of a feminist and I think we all get brainwashed into thinking we can only be beautiful if we are hairless barbie dolls, which i think is ridiculous.

So sometimes i even persuade clients that they don't need to bother removing hair....

I enjoy waxing apart from eyebrows ... I'd much rather use my trusty tweezers!

Just a question to other eyebrow waxers out there ... does anyone else find it tricky shaping eyebrows by sitting behing the client? I sometimes feel it would be easier shaping from the front. Any thoughts?

I don’t love it or hate it now, but omg:Scared: I would have a panic attack before I had to do a bikini wax on a client in the salon.
When I first did a bikini I bruised someone really bad, they were ok but I could just not get over it, then I did it again to some one else, that was nearly the end of me doing beauty therapy, then the manager of my placement took me to one side and showed me how to do it, the way she did and all the girls let me have ago on them to. I cracked and now don’t have a problem.

OK, I'd be interested to know everyone's thoughts on waxing vs sugaring. I do pot and spat method and have wondered if it's worth doing sugaring. Finding sugaring courses seems pretty difficult around my area, has anyone else found this.

Can all those who enjoy bikini waxing... please do me...

Im desperate to get another wax done.. my last one was a real disaster and i was seriously infected for months.. i want to go the woman who deals with the stars.. otyllla i think her name is but 60 GBP is way too much for me..

Anyone near Greenford? or not too far from?

One thing that I was advised on my course, and have never been advised by a therpaist when having had a bikini wax, is don't wear tight trousers. I always have, you get in the car, the jeans rub against the waxed area and it's darmed uncomfy and causes ingrown hairs.

My clients are laying on a facial bed while I wax, and I stand the to side of them when shaping and get them to turn their face towards me so I can see if I am even or not.

I wouldn't/couldn't do it myself to people but love havin it done!

You can't beat smooth bits! LOL

Waxing is very popular and once a client has it they normally would never want to return to the razor/ shavor.Therfore excellent for having clients return every 4 to 6 weeks depending on growth cycle. Some every 3 weeks. Wax is cheap as are wax strips. We use a Clean and Easy roller system which is fab. It's great for speed and extremely cost effective as it administers the exact amount of wax needed for the client and you dont have any drips. I can do full leg wax. Bikini, underarm and lip/chin + eye brow in an hour and that would cost 45.50 so that gives you an idea of costs. We also never use needle for ingrown hairs we use the same tweezers and these are always sterilised.

Hey Deb (long time no see!),

I finished my Sukar training in sugaring a few weeks ago - I must admit I'm a waxing fanatic, but the hand applied sugar paste ball is great! I don't find the strip sugar is as good as my normal wax for getting out shorter hairs, and as a result I seem to spend more time using the paste ball to get the hairs that have been left behind, but both the strip sugar and paste are so much more gentle on the skin that it would make the extra time worth it for sensitive clients. I've certainly noticed there is less redness and heat in the client's skin after use (the sugar is applied at body temperature). Clean-up is also easier, much less sticky than wax.

Pain-wise, sugar addicts tell me it's less uncomfortable than waxing but personally I didn't notice any difference in the ouch factor!

So far, I'm not a complete convert, but I do so love that darned paste ball (there must be a support group out there for people like me, lol!) - I'll definitely be using it for sensitive body areas and will offer it as an alternative to waxing for those who request it or who have had a reaction to wax in the past.

Andy

70% of my clients are coming to me for waxing. I make more money doing a couple of hours of waxing then I do having a solid booked day of nails. I have one client that comes every three weeks for a full leg/brazillian/underarm/eyebrows/full arm, and it takes me one hour and it costs her $125.00. I can do 4 Brazillian waxes in an hour, at $45.00 each which is $180.00. I offer no other services that can bring me this kind of money. And my clients are very loyal. They come back to me like clockwork.

 There ought to be - perhaps we should set one up!

I've just had a call from a girl I trained 6 months ago, thrilled to bits with sugaring. She's a single mum, who was living on benefits, feeling really low and with few prospects (previous job was making bows for chocolate boxes working thru the night for a pittance). Her life has turned around...off benefits, making £20 plus per hour, lots of regulars, parties etc and bags of self respect!

She finds it really therapeutic, and I agree. I take a great deal of pride in my work and get a real sense of satisfaction when all the hair has come away and I've only used a tiny piece of paste!

I've trained many waxers and they all feel it less painful and more effective - you can treat an area like the leg twice in each direction so more hair is removed. It is gentler, hair doesn't need to be as long as for waxing so the root hasn't had as much time to get established therefore less pain. No harsh chemicals, just sugar, water and lemon juice. Biodegradable and water soluble.

It's less expensive gram for gram than wax - 1 kg pot is about £6, and you can get loads of treatments from a single pot....

I could go on but think I may well need your support group!!

Hmmm..... hadnt thought about sugaring.... does it work for all areas, i.e bikini? I havent done a waxing course but have been thinking about doing one, dont you need to use a hard wax for bikinis or am I completely wrong lol?

Does anyone know where I can do a course in either waxing or sugaring that isnt just a 1 day course? My local college dont do it as a stand alone course anymore, its part of the beauty therapy course that I was tempted with but I really would prefer to just do waxing rather than all the other bits like make up that I dont suppose I would get a call for..... I am in Basildon, Essex.

I have been looking into waxing/sugaring and this thread has been a good read.

Can I also ask a Q and I hope that I don't sound too daft :o . Do any of you waxers/sugarers work mobile and if so where/how do you do it. Do you have a mobile table??

I'd say that sugaring is perfect for the bikini and underarm areas, as it is very gentle on the skin compared to waxing. I currently use a hard (non-strip) wax with oil on sensitive areas, but will definitely be using the sugar paste now that I've seen the light, lol!

I expect that sugaring is perfect for mobile work as the hand paste can be used straight from the pot or - if necessary - zapped for a few seconds in a microwave (leave to cool before using!). Strip sugar does need to be warmed like traditional waxes, but again it can be pre-heated in the microwave before you leave and then warmed through evenly in a heater once you reach your client's house. Plus, if you drop it on your client's carpet, it washes straight out with water (unlike wax, as I know from personal experience, eek!)!

Wow this thread has some interesting pointers. I lurrrrve waxing. I do most common areas except the 'specialist/advanced' waxing areas eg. brazilian bikini waxes..... as you need a qualification for that, I believe. However, I had a a 'californian' (for the first time) just before my holiday last August, and I LOVED IT (the appearance, that is, not the ouch factor). The therapist was a bit rough, eg. she didnt really stretch or keep the skin taut (think she bruised me also), so it did hurt a little.... who am I kidding, it hurt like hell - it was like giving birth all over again...lol BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. Now I manage to keep it myself neat and tidy, without having to go back to the 'butcher'.
For any therapist out there who gets a satisfaction out of seeing a clients appearance change, eg. nails, eyebrow shape etc. Waxing is one of those treatments to give a buzz. Took me a while to get over the nerves of worrying whether I would hurt clients, whilst at college, but then I enlisted neighbours and friends to practice on. Some are adamant they want to stick to their loyal friend the razor, but others were pleased I converted them!
Anyone thinking of doing a course, should look for one that covers all aspects of waxing and hair growth, contra-indications etc as safety is paramount, rather than an express 'one-day' course that may leave you unsure and nervous and possibly turn you into the Hannibal Lector of the beauty industry (de-skinning clients)...lol

Andy, after reading about your praises for sugaring, I am going to look into the possibility of a course over here in Ireland. I'm sure there must be some around in Dublin.
Sorry for the epic reply. Just love waxing ....and nails.
Debbie.
xx
HTH (unless you have all fallen asleep;) )

Me loves it..... I think it is so satisfying when the client is please with the result...

When we learnt I picked up the technique very easy but it was applying to large area that was most difficult......

I do sugaring as well and love it !

I also use it for underarm and bikini areas with no problem. I had a hard-wax underarm and brazilian done a couple of weeks ago and it was the most painful experience of my life ! I've had these done before with honey wax / strip sugar and it has never hurt like that.

So in my personal opinion, I would stay away from hard-wax and either use strip or sugar paste.
