:o....Hi all just wanted to ask if any of you know of a cheapish way to learn nail skills!....I ask purely because I know that maybe some individuals do tutoring by themselves?.....I really want to do an acrylic course but at the moment I am finding most of the courses quite expensive and outwith my budget means!!!....I am in Ayrshire and if anyone knows of someone who does training at a lower cost I'd be grateful for their details...if not, I don't really know what I'm going to do.......sorry, dont mean this thread to sound bad just that I am struggling a bit with finances due to forth coming holiday!...thanks ...Sue

Sue you will find most reputable courses are not going to be cheap hun, most of us on here had to save up...which is hard because once you decide to become a nail technician you want to train like yesterday lol, thats the only advice i can give you hun is...save your pennies, the last thing you want to do is do a cheap substandard course and feel cheated out of money for learning nothing......
i know you want to do it now hun.....but i would wait and save up for the best course you can do :hug:

They are probably loads of us on here that could teach you,
don't say it would be any cheaper tho and it would be of no use to you or anyone else as it would not be accredited training so you would not be able to get insured,
be very wary of cheap training hun, it is never the best idea,
the best thing to do is either go to college on a part time course if you work or save up and take a really good course,
i highly recommend training from Creative, for their prices you would need to ring 0845 2106060 hth

sweetheart - either cancel your holiday and spend money on damn good training, or start saving when you get back! I have never been on a holiday in my entire life - but I have good training and good products!

There really is no short cuts to this industry - most of us on here have prob spent an average of around 2-3k training in nails alone!

You really do get what you pay for - any course that promises you'll be fully qual'd within a matter of days - avoid at all costs.

Do your research sweetie and go for the best training. Remember that some insurance companies wont recognise certain courses xxx

Hi Sue, I appreciate what you are saying and that finances are tight but really hun, what training may seem cheap in the first instance can easily turn out really expensive in the long run. I have experienced this, I got a lot out of my initial training but knew within myself that it wasn't enough and that is why I went on to train with EzFlow. I really haven't looked back.

I know that this is probably not the answer you want hun but I hope it helps a bit

I am an Ayrshire lass too whereabouts are you?

Ditto what fifitrix said!!

Hiya! I think the girls are right in what they say - enjoy your holiday then save your pennies like mad when you get back - i looked into loads of options to do my training and come across this site - which has been brilliant in helping me decide what to do - after much thought i have decided to train with creative nails - lucky for me that is in offer in aberdeen - but i am really really wanting to get started but due to buying a new house i have to put it on hold a few months to save some pennies - its hard but i know its the right decision because i want to get the correct training from word go. I just want to get started though!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks for all your replies.....Sodabubble...I cant cancel my holiday now my partner would go ape!!!!...we have our deposit down and paid some money to it so that's a no-no...:)...I have been in touch with NSI and CND for prices, its just trying to get the money upfront to pay for it!!!...I dont really want to spend a year going to college (possibly longer cause I could only go p/t)!...I'm not getting any younger....:)...and I really want to do this now, thought about it last year and done nothing about it but I've got the bug again...I know you are all correct in what you say about proper training and feel a bit silly posting the last thread now...:o...but it's just that I didnt realise it was going to be sooo expensive.....thanks for all your advice anyway....I will need to see if I can borrow or have to save like mad!!!!...Sue xx

best of luck with the saving! its hard but worth it, we have had to cancel luxuries like cable tv, and sell things to make ends meet,it's just part and parcel of being in the industry. As I said I have never had a holiday in my life so I guess I cant miss what I've never had, but maybe by cutting back on the weekly shop, selling your old clothes on ebay, no going out for meals etc you will get there in the end! you'll be surprised at how much you can save by doing things like this! good luck hunni xxxx

Thanks Sodabubble....xxx

I understand what you are saying Adele and fair point, but I dont expect to learn it in 'one day'!...I know it is expensive having already done a fibreglass course...I was basically asking because I know some people do it 'cheaper' than say...'£500'...I was looking at options rather than quick fixes so to speak!. I, like you are of the 'more mature' people...:) and this is not something I have approached lightly, it is something I have had an interest in for a long time but as you say...life gets easier as you get older!... but thanks for your opinion

you obvisouly have the drive to do it well - it is frustrating but will be worth it. There are so many geeks on here who have fallen for the 'buy cheap - buy twice' rule, and so many of the geeks wish they had not wasted their pennies on cheaper courses, as they all end up going for a better course in the long run!
You have to ask yourself what you want from your training, be it product quality, afercare from the tutor, potential to do advanced courses, course content, reputation of company etc......it is a big descision as your career depends on it.

Good luck :)

Thank you Sodabubble.....These are all the things I am thinking of ...I do want to go down the proper route and No offence was meant for any reputable people on here so PLEASE don't think I meant bad.....I appreciate all the advice

yes i am one of those that fell donw the cheap route, before i found this site, i took a cheaper course, then had to buy kit and extras etc, and couldnt get insurance didnt know anything i actually needed to etc, so then went bk to college to do intense VTCT (20 weeks) in mani /pedi, best thing i ever did then i saved like bloomin mad to save for a 'proper' course which i knew was insurable and alos would teach me what i knew i needed to know

anyway long story short, ive now spent more than if i had looked into 'decent' training in the first place, cos the 1st course seemed cheaper on paper, but once i saw what wasnt included and what i had to buy etc, i had been fooled/duped, the more expensive course (£500 odd like you say) actually turned out to be cheaper or as cheap IYKWIM

good luck in whatever you decide to do, the one piece of advise i would give, is whatever course you decide to do, ring the guild of professional beauty therapists or babtac etc and make sure the course is recognised and insurable, and make sure you can get onggoing training with the company, so you can continue to expand your skills with them over the years,

hths chick xxxx

Thank you Sodabubble.....These are all the things I am thinking of ...I do want to go down the proper route and No offence was meant for any reputable people on here so PLEASE don't think I meant bad.....I appreciate all the advice

Hi Lisa I think I looked at that course but the 'acrylic course' version and I'm sure it didn't include the l & p which you had to buy seperate....all extra money!...plus I really want someone to be able to tell/show me if I am going wrong etc...but thanks anyway for your advice....:)

There are alot of "course" that will offer a cheapish way into the industry, but as I have learnt from past experience cheap is not best, I had to pay again to learn over a period of time and im still learning (some 3 years on), good grass roots learning is in my opinion essential, get the foundations right and build then :)
Good luck, let us know how/what you choose and how you get on:)

You said you had done a fibreglass course?
Someone else could correct me if I am wrong....but does that not have any bearing on training? Would she have to do a foundation course or not just a conversion course?
Sorry thinking aloud as usual...

Like everyone has said...it is a case of saving those pennies....
You could find cheap training I am sure of it...but do some searches on here and see if it is worth it....then make your decision...

I know how you feel though...I am a person who wants things done yesterday...once I have a bee in my bonnet that is it...I want it NOW

Good luck with whichever route you plan to go down....phone around your local reputable training companies/centres and see what they have to offer and get some brochures and information...then you can have something to forcus on while you save those pennies...xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
