Hi all

I'm going out next Saturday to one of those 80's disco things. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on how I sould have my nails i.e long, short, colours etc. If it will help I should be wearing coloured leggins (blue or pink) baggy t-shirt, leg warmers, pumps and if I dare a sweat band ! Think Olivia Newton Johns "lets get physical". Any ideas you could give would be great!

I remember that I used to ahve my nails long and oval. Then I would paint the nail colour "A" (black/white/electric blue) and do dots on it with a different colour. Sometimes the nails would be the same colour eg blue or one hand (eg) blue with white dots and the other white with blue. Or one nail blue with white next white with blue then blue with white etc etc.
Sometimes a plain colour (white/blue/black/fucsia etc) and the little finger nail would be a different colour.
There were also the gold nail stickers (playboy bunny, lightening strike etc) and brightly coloured stickers too.

just found these: http://www.nailpro.com/pdf/protalk/npo0804acr_trends_tech.pdf

most nail art that is fashionable today, was fashionable in the 80's, except the amazing standard of 3D work these days, most of the nails in the 80's were long coackroach back-esque abominations, but the basic nail art(stripes/diamontes/foils/striping tape/freehand flicks/split pearls/feathers) are exactly the same .... just make it tacky and you will be very 80's, even the French look is very 80's, but they were much longer back then.

French dissapeared for a while, then rose it's head again.

We are even starting to stick tips on with acrylic again, just like in the 80's, only back then where the well is, they had 3 pre-drilled holes , so when you pressed them on, the excess would squirt out the holes, not around the cuticles ........ aaaaaaah sweet memories (or is that nightmares)?

from what i remember, long, oval and outrageous.
metallics, bright colors to match your outfit.
watch the movie Casino, oh boy, will you get ideas from that movie!
i had a client who, every 2 weeks, would want a different design from the movie.
good luck, have fun!

My Nails Rock!

Thanks for all your helps guys.
So we're going with OTT tacky and kinda long? I'm used to having brightish colours on my nails so that won't be a problem, now to dig out my electric blue nail colour!

i remember my auntie and friends who were 'clubbing age' in early 80's used to have long brightly apinted nails, infact sometimes they had each nail a diff colour, electric blue, shocking pink, bright yellow, lime green you get the idea, and lots of black and white etc

so yes tacky and long should do you perfectly lol

pictures wanted when youve been please lol x

when I had my nails in the 80's ....they were long and square.......and always had a bright colour......with lots of rhinestones, nail art, maybe a few nail jewelery as well ! ....aaahhhwww,,,,the 80's ....a tacky time indeed !!:green:

My sister used to get her nails done in the 80s and she had one of those false nails that you put over the top of your own nail in solid gold, iynwim
(yes a very tacky chick lol)

I'm gonna have a play tomorrow and see how colourful I can get them. I like the idea of every nail a different colour that way I don't have to choose which one looks the worst, I can have them all bad lol. Does anybody now where I can get illuminous colours from, I've got elec blue and gold knocking about somewhere but that's about it.
Thanks for all your suggestions, Ive got some good ideas in my head now, just got to try them out:irked:
