Hey

After all the commotion in the press about the boots anti aging product for £17 (please correct me if I am wrong) what do you tell clients when they ask the dreaded - ''But why is your product so much more expensive?''

Just interested in your thoughts

To be honest none of my clients have ever asked me about it! If they did i would explain to them that the ingrediants in professional products are of a much higher quality and a lot of research goes in to the devolpment of new products which is why they cost more than Boots own brand. If they still weren't satisfied then i wouldn't bother trying to convince them anymore, i would politely tell them to buy the £17 cream instead. :green:

Not wanting to start an argument, nor am I qualified in facials....

But, the whole reason why there is such a comotion about the Boots £17 cream, is because it was independantly tested along with some big name, other far more expensive brands, and the ingredients in the Boots cream was of a higher standard / quality and amount as the more expensive brands.

Hence people getting a bit excited about the fact that they can get something which is obviously good for £17 instead of £50.

Well I'm not a skin geek but I would tell them that £17 for a retail product that actualy works is a bargin. But that you use prof products. Home dye kits do dye your hair but is the result as good as the salon? Nope, I don't think so.

I am another who has no qualifications in skin care of any kind, but I think what bexi and marlise are saying is, that on the program, independent testing was carried out and the results were that the £17 cream from Boots worked BETTER than all of the expensive products they tested including professional brands. This is why the No7 cream is sold out everywhere and has been changing hands for a fortune on ebay.

 So now it's a really expensive, cheap anti-aging product.

Are you it was tested against professional brands. In Australia the never include pro products in those sorts of things.

Mmm...but will it be back on the shelfs....???...a birdie has told me that the formula of that serum which was made by another company on behalf of boots No7 has since been sold to another company...so will be back in the market with a new name and a new (bigger) price tag....the new boots No7 one wont be off the same formula.

someone saw ££££ signs when that program was made...

well....(ladies at post office time..).....

one of my clients is responsible for the buying of beauty products at boots H/Q (she also said there had been many redundancies due to this)

.......ohh i am such a name dropper... shhhhhhh

often cheaper companies copy high end products (narrowly avoiding patent and copyright issues) , difficult to explain the difference though when it's been proven.
Sometimes the price difference is the "packaging" + the cost of advertising.

I'm always cautious of fabulous bottles/packaging and huge yellow pages/full page advertisements, this demonstrates to me "money to burn", maybe it's just my opinion, but i often like to give "the little guy" a go.

interesting thoughts ladies! i'm not sure its very confusing i always thought no 7 was a c**p brand (no offence!)

I didn't see the programme about this so not sure how it was tested but I heard that the No.7 serum was loads better than La Praire equivalant. Is that right ?

If so doesn't this come down to what suits one may not suit another ? I have used No7 before & my skin got worse but LP products worked like a dream.

Some of my clients have used Creme de la Mer most have raved about it but ive met a few people that have said it made no difference at all.

Do you see what I mean ? Don't think ive explained it very well !

They didn't test all skin care products this was "science" for a short documentary. I would say if that boots cream is good just imagine what a real specialist cream from a salon could do for you. It also mentioned the reason a lot of salon brand creams have not released proof of change in the skin is because they work so well and actually change the skins structure if they make this official they would have to be changed from "cosmeceuticals" to "pharmaceuticals" which cost them more and prevents sale in salons (this is actually a positive thing to tell your clients). The creams they tested are ones that you can just buy off the shelf in a department store not ones you can only buy from a skin care specialist.

Oh I'm so relieved someone put this down.. I was paniced I was going to have to explain it myself. Dispite what any "study" says or how scientific it is you can never replace the expertise of a skincare specialist (toot toot of my horn:lol: ) or the expertise of the lines we carry.
