Can anyone roughly tell me what the body temp of a baby should be or there abouts?

The little fella has been grumpy all day and in the last hour the colour has drained from him and he keeps shaking, his eyes are glazed and his cheeks are burning and red. Hes also got a green runny nose

Ive taken his temp and its reading 37.9. its that long since mine was babies that i cant remember the body temp.

I hope he aint coming down with anything as ive had hubby at home a week with headache, aching joints and sickness:eek:

Sounds like a slight temperature to me. I found this link for you which might be helpful.
Fever

Hope he feels better soon.

Yes hes had medinol at 10.30pm and finaly after 3 hours of crying hes fallen asleep. Think thats what i need :irked:

Oh bless. It's up a little but nothing to worry about.
I'd be sleeping while he is cos you may be in for loosing some! My little girl has been ill and the school said there is bugs going round so he'll of cought something probably.

Has he got teeth coming through hun? Could be teething. Morgandie's temp always spikes to about 38 / 38.5 when she is, and her nose gets runny, and she gets grizzly.

37.9 is a little high, try and bring it down with something paracetomol based...Calpol, Medinol, or Medised....soemthing like that. Cool flannel on the forehead, plenty of fluids, and lots of TLC.

If it goes over 38, it's considered fever but manageable at home (you only need really worry if he has other worrying symptons at this point (breathing problems, blue lip, convulsions, listlessness, etc) - I've also included the NHS fever guide for what to do next below, but you do you want to check his temp every hour or so and ensure its not going higher. Try and get him to get some rest and if it doesn't come down by morning, run him to the docs and get it checked out.

If it goes over 38.5, then thats your cue to ring your surgery out of hours service for advice or NHS as has been adivsed.

Yes I know its worrying but, all that said....99% of fevers are something mild, teething, sniffles...juist babies way of trying to work something mildly annoying out of his littel body. But a great excuse for lots of cuddles!

NHS Direct - Self-help guide

But at any point, if you are worried, get him checked out...believe me, after all we've been through with Morgandie (she was very susceptible to infection as her immune system was completely compromised) , the docs always said, instinct is your best friend. If you feel something is wrong then get it checked out!

Thanks everyone, i know hes teething because hes biting everything in sight. Hes 11 months on tuesday and only just got his first tooth last week

Ive got him laid with only his nappy on and one of those shake ice packs restind on his head (its not ice just a cold feeling and perfectly safe)

Him having a hight temp dont bother me, its the shaking that worried me. Only way to describe it was like a shiver.

Have you seen the advert with the dog on, hes in a car singing then in a queue shivering well it was like that, almost as if he tensed and shivered then relaxed and 2 mins later did it again.

Hopefully he will sleep through as hes had no sleep all day so off to put my head down and get some

Thanks again xx

oh i know what your going through....must be boys eh?? lol. My son has just turned 1 and has only got 6 teeth still.....i keep looking for more and everyday i say he is teething but nothing. Oh well im sure they will come eventually.
He may have had a febrile convulsion.....these are comman in young kids. My friends son had these whenever his temp went too high....you have done everything right to get his temp down......im sitting here now with mine...hopefully he will give up and sleep soon.......
xx

Not just boys, sadly! Morgandie turned one a couple of days ago, and she has 4 teeth well and truly through and abut 4 halfway through. I can see the skin of the gum stretched over them and it must be quite uncomfortable poor love!

You'd think after several millenia, nature might have found a kinder way of teething for them woudn't you!

Cj's temp is dpwn a little at 37.4, still very hot to touch and now has colour in his cheeks...burning red lol hes as grumpy as hell!

Taking him out for a ride in the car, he likes looking through the window at things pasing lol
