Can you help, I did my first nail biter today and i sculpted them.First i extended the nail bed with flawless pink and then i sculpted the free edge, but they came out pants.

Before http://www.salongeek.com/members/poshpinks-albums-sculpted+nails-picture10545-ems-003.jpg

After http://www.salongeek.com/members/poshpinks-albums-sculpted+nails-picture10547-ems-005.jpg

As you can see they look messy, i dont know why but you can see the join and i didnt want to make them thick but it looks like there was not enought white on the free edge. Do you think I could of used a clear tip or were they too short? Feel a tad dissapointed .

Nail biters are incredibly difficult to do. There is a tutorial on here about saddling a tip on a nail biter.

Sculpting is really difficult because you have to get over the bulbous skin.

You could have extended the nail bed further towards the end of the finger and used much less white.

It is a skill well worth perfecting but it will take time.

Don't be so hard on yourself if this was your first nail biter!!

My first thought was there was too much white, they should be shorter.
That would transform them right away, just taking the length down to get a better balance between pink & white.

Also just watch I think your product is a bit unfinished looking out at the sidewalls, again a bit more finish filing would sort that out. In future when applying use a bit less product and use your brush angle to keep the product thinner and smoother at the sidewalls.
Your client could end up with some sidewall lifting, and with a nail biting client she could end up using that to prize them off!!

I hope she is coming back for a weekly maintenance which is necessary when the nails are as bitten as that to start off with.

Well done though, that is your first biter out of the way, and I am sure you will have learned a lot, and the next one won't be so daunting!!!

Well done....that was really a trial in itself looking at the before pics! x
I would have done a reverse application applying my white first and then extending the nail with a good coverage powder to create a neat smile line. Keep practising mate....and keep them quite short.

I think if you reduce the length of the white by half and bring in the sides a bit, you'll have a much more balanced look. You did a good job, tho! :)

I think you've done a good job hun. I did a nail biter the other day, no way near as bad as that though and i wasn't happy either. I couldnt stop thinking about it all day. She wsa a friend of my sister in law, who popped round for a brew just as i finished so she saw them too. I even text her later asking if her friend was happy with them as i was worried and she said yes she was made up with them! And just look at your before and afters they look miles better after!! You've been given some great advice and im not experienced enough to give any really but can give you some encouragment!! xxx

Thanks all I will take that all on board ,I did think the sidewalls did flare out abit and does anyone know if there is a tutorial on extending the nail bed as i tryed to do this but failed .

You have done a wonderful job. I would of shorten the white and make the nail bed come down a bit. But these type of bitters/nails are very hard to do. You did a excellent job. Thank you for sharing.:)

I would have used a tip on this girl. It would have made your life much easier .. increased the life of the enhancement ... looked much more sleek and given a better result all around IMO.

You may think I'm a tipper  but you'd be wrong I am primarily a sculptor but even though I am, I would have tipped these.

Now if you were just doing it for practise then fine and good but normally I would not waste my efforts to make these nails look beautiful by sculpting them; I would have used a tip.

I was not sure what to do to tip or not to tip , I am hoping they all fall off so I can do them again lol.I did find it very difficult today as the nail beds were so short when i sculpt on a normal nail bed i find it much easier .

there is a good tutorial on Entity Beauty - Welcome to Entity Beauty
if you look for nudite there are some instructions there for doing it.

go into products, then acrylic and on the right there will be a box with nudite instructions.

Some great links on here cheers for showing them to me ,the entity one was useful.

Dannie,

You are being far too harsh on yourself  (as always missy!!). For a first attempt at a nail biter these are pretty good. I do agree that reducing the whites and extending the nail bed further would have made a difference (also I know you are not 100% happy with your forms so changing those may give you a bit move confidence - let me know if you want any off me when this lady comes back if you haven't ordered any - I think this may help)

I prefer to sculpt nail biters to tipping as I find it difficult to saddle the tip, however this is only down to practice and the fact that I have had two regular clients that were nail biters in the past so I was able to experiment on them. Unfortunatly its not really something you can do on your nail trainer!!

Honestly tho hun, its a good first attempt, i'm sure she was pleased with them!

(see you tomorrow!)

i have 3 nail biter clients ( they have almost driven me to despair). however, and its of course up to your client but i have done natural sets on them . ( i am going back to one next week and will tkae pics). they seem to just look better on nailbiters than pink and whites. I dont know why they do, but they do. its just a thought , and by the way i think you did a grand job, dont be hard on yourself at all!.

Tips are a perfect alternative for nail biters. It is a great way to add length, because it can be difficult fitting a form on someone who has zero free edge! Try tipping next time and use an opaque pink powder (like NSI Attraction Pink Masque or Purely Pink Masque) to extend that nail bed even more. When using opaque pink powders, just make sure you don't drag the pink over the white too much. Opaque powders are very pigmented and may take away from the bright white extension edge.

One other suggestion, place an extra bead of powder over the stress point (where the tip and nail plate meet) for a little added strength. Nail biters can be VERY hard on their extensions.

Hope this was helpful.

I think next time (or when one brakes) i will try tipping at least i will see which is better for me thanks all.
