This might seem like an odd question, but when you are at home, do you lock your front door? Obviously we close it, yes, but if a salesman or whatever tried your door handle would they be able to walk right on in? (unlikely I know)

Some doors lock as you close them (the Yale type I think) but since we had a new door fitted you have to turn the key.

I turn the key after letting a client in (I leave the key in the door) but several clients have made a comment about locking the door (they don't usually notice until they leave and try the handle and then have to turn the key) as if I am a bit odd??

I'm not a salon, I work from home . . . in my living room. People don't just randomly walk in off the street without an appointment, not ever . . . so although we're not in a particularly "rough" area, I turn the key. Whether clients are here or not.

So I was just wondering what you all do? Am I odd lol?

No - you are not odd at all!

Nobody can get in through my front door without a key, by opening from inside or by breaking in!

In this day and age you cant be too careful!

It wasn't until recently that we started locking our front door at all.

We live on a farm out in the middle of no-where & it wasn't until we had problems with travellers pinching from our yard, we thought we better.

If we go out on a night, & no-one is there, its unlocked. Its only when we go to bed that we lock it at all!

Plus, as the house has structurally moved, its difficult to lock & it doesnt lock from the outside anyway!!

So you might think I am odd.

Gosh hun its not something I have ever thought about.
I some times don't lock my door if I pop up to the shops:!:

We live in a little remote village and have never ever worried about my house being broken in to or odd people walking in.
I do have a Police Station across the road and a dog in the house

My front, back and 1 of the 2 side doors is always locked but the 1 side door that leads into the kitchen diner is always unlocked.
I even go out through the day and leave it unlocked:!: Its only on a night when i go bed that i lock it and if for some reason i stay down stairs watching tv all night its stays unlocked:eek:

I have cctv cameras on every angle of my house so if anyone was to come into the garden from either angle i would see them:lol: And no they are not there because its a rough area its there to safeguard our property and cars.

Ive often questioned myself about leaving the door unlocked as loads of people know its never locked, i even say to friends or family who may be visiting ..."if im not there when you arrive just go in the doors unlocked"

Sat here thinking about it i actually feel unerved now as looking through from my room i have on show my handbag and 3 sets of car keys amongs other expensive items.

From today i think i will start and lock it no matter what.

Hope no bugulars are reading these !!!:lol:

I dont lock my front or back door .....i should as i have a big garden and if anyone come into my house, would not hear them.

Yup, both front and back doors are locked when I'm at home.

Nothing odd there by doing it ...

I work from home too but I only lock the door when I am doing spray tanning. My door has a loud chime when the door opens so I can hear if anyone opens the door and I would always check. But when spray tanning I cant hear so I lock it as my clients comes into my home.

When I do any 'private' or tranquil treatment I also lock the door as I don't want anyone walking in disturbing me, so just lock it to be on the safe side.

My front door never gets unlocked unless we are BBQ'in on the front patio, then we lock the back again due to not being able to hear the back door being openend.

We are very safety concious but try not to be paranoid about it or I wouldnt be able to work at home all day on my own.

I always lock the front door when I am home, ever since my Nan had somebody walk into her kitchen (knowing that there was someone there as he followed a friend going to her house) and steal her friend's handbag. My Nan saw him retreating from the kitchen and yelled, her friend actually chased him (!!!!) and he got confused and ran the wrong way into the back garden, smashed his way through a locked door, and cleared the garden fence.
The police never caught him, even though they had evidence. So yes, always lock the door!

I'd think your house insurance would be invalid if anyone walked in, stole your bag, purse, credit cards, car keys, cars, etc. It usually states that there has to be forcable entry before they would pay out, so wave byebye to everything! I keep mine locked at all times and am even paranoid if I'm out in the garden. The woman two houses along from me was broken into when she was out in the garden. They just opened her back door, walked in, searched the house and stole money from a wardrobe. I watched the "lookout", thinking he was looking for a lost cat in the hedge!

When we used to live in our previous house in Lancs I always locked the doors as I wouldnt have heard anyone come in and it was an eery feeling but here in the middle of nowhere, we dont. No one can find us even with the address so the chances are minimal for anyone to come here by accident....

However having said that I simply cannot sleep if I dont know the front door is locked (this is the back door in reality but the front door is permanently locked) and I have woken up many times with this weird feeling and when I looked the door was not locked.....strange but after locking it I could then go to sleep.....(must be my inner lock keeping me awake ?)

I think this is due to your location...

where we are also there is absolutley no need for it...even at night...the only thing that will probably want to gain access late at night into my front door is ..well erm...me :lol:

If anyone did try and get in ...well there would be one hell of a big boxer dog breathing down their neck if they did

My wife on the other hand ...being from Germany is paranoid as that is the done thing over there...you dont leave anything ,even for a second ,without locking it.

Stillbetter to be safe than sorry if your in a town or city

I always keep my front door locked and I even close the windows if I am sat in the garden.. you just never know who is lurking about, and I dont think intruders will be be scared of my Cavalier King Charles as he would let them take it all for a hug lol

Funny as that is what I always thought....our previous boxer and this one are ever so happy to see people and anyone who will play that I thought they are absolutely useless as guarddogs. Seems I was wrong as I obviously have only seen him when we are around but the other day he was outside with us being in the house and he didnt like too much coming onto our property........all hair standing up on edge, mean growl....didnt look friendly at all and I couldnt blame the driver staying in the car not wanting to get out as he is not the smallest of boxers.....so even your dog might change his mind if you are not around?

Nicollllllllllllllllllllllllllla you thinking of taking to crime lol Please reply carefully geeks and dont ever give Nic your addy for her to send you a card etc wink wink

Just to add my house is guarded night and day by a big rottie and 2 armed guards by each door.

I have these front\back doors that you can not get in from the outside locked or not ..but i always lock them.

I remember the days where you used to go out and leave your door open and no one would even think about walking into the houses...not like this anymore, you can't leave a hanging basket full of plants out at night.

I think this is definately the case for most house insurance, they are not going to pay out if a door is left unlocked or even a window. I know our windows have got those individual locks on that you push in, and even if these aren't locked but the window is shut, it can invalidate your policy.

I always keep the front door locked as it can be opened from the outside.

nope - only lock my front door when i go to bed. its on a handle that is always 'open ' unless you lock it.
i leave my back door open every day (except if weather prevents it) for the dog to get in and out.:green:
live in a quiet village . if anyone really wants to get in they will what ever you do.

Hiya,

We have a yale lock on our door which we always have on so nobody can just walk in. Its mainly because we have an 'indoor' cat and if someone just walked in he could easily get out. We lock it and bolt it at night though.
