I had my first complaint today and could do with some advice

Yesterday I had a new client who had existing product on her nails. It was grown out about half way down her nail plate and very well adhered. No lifting at all and seemed like it was in good shape so I debulked and blended the edges. Then applied CND natural powder using Moxie liquid. Shaped as usual but didn't buff too much as she wanted polish to finish. Applied sticky base coat and 2 coats of CND polish. There wasn't time to apply topcoat as she was in a hurry.

This morning I had a phone call from her to say she wasn't happy as they were very 'scuffed and battered'. I suggested that she call in to see me and I would take a look.

I did notice that my application didn't go very smoothly - almost as if there was a reaction to the old product. Has anyone come across this before? Are there products out there which are incompatible?

I am hoping that there is clear evidence of my product seperating from the old so that I have an explanation. If this is the case I can remove and re-apply onto bare nailplate. BUT if there is no clear evidence then what should I do? I don't think it possible that she could have trashed her nails literally overnight!

Any thoughts before I have to deal with the complaint her face to face would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Hazel

Is there a possibility she's referring to the polish?

Is there a possibility she's referring to the polish?

This just occurred to me as I was reading back my own post
Wouldn't it be nice if it was down to a lack of top coat? The way my luck has been this week probably not! but I can keep my fingers crossed.

Honestly though, I did notice my product not 'flowing' quite right and actually mentioned it to the client. I thought it was down to my brush being worn and have now started using a new one.

i think she must be refering to the enamel......its going to get scuffed if she didnt want a topcoat and if she was in a hurry she probably didnt let it dry enough before doing things.
i wouldnt worry about it too much...im sure when you see her you will be able to rectify the problem

i also thought she was refering to the nail polish, but you wont know till you see them.all you can do is listen to what she has to say and just explain as much as you can.good luck and let us know what happens.x

Yeh good luck n let us know what happens x

Deffo the polish I think. I bet she was rushing round smudging her nails to high heaven! Easily fixed, don't fret. x

How did you go on with this one in the end Haze?

maybe im being fussy but when you say you didnt buff too much cos she was having polish- to what extent do you mean? Just if you didnt finish them off properly chances are you wold still see the "scuffs" under the polish- especially without a top coat....

I thought that too, polish can be, IME, be very unforgiving if its not on a smooth surface and the shine will show up uneveness. I agree though, when I read your post I thought it sounded like your client was referring to her polish

Really hope it is the polish lol most likely to be I think, to be honest most of us at some point have applied nail polish to ourselves in a rush night out etc and not done a top coat or not let it dry then its been a total mess lol (before I was a nail tech btw )
also I think Hazel meant she did'nt buff to a high gloss shine because she was applying polish dont want to be presumptious but think thats what she meant guys xx

Well... what was the out come... was it just the polish?.....
when you mentioned that the products didnt seem like it "melted" into the old product...
I have had a similar thing happen to me. Didn;t matter how much i buffed and blended the new product almost rolled off the old one like chewing gum.. it took a really thick coat of gel to "fix" this problem...
Now I have a form that the clients sign when going over old product... I tell them that i woudl prefer to start from a fresh set so that i can be sure of what is on the nail... most like to anyway

Let us know how you went
X Mel
