I had a client come to me this last Tuesday - she was coughing and stuff, I had to keep sanitizing her hands and mine every 5 mins:Scared:
I did say to her in a jokey kind of way - OMG! I hope you're not contagious? Oh, it's OK, I've been like this for 3 wks, coughing up blood as well sometimes, but I've been to work:Scared::Scared:
Well, guess what....I'm now the owner of a stinking snotty, sneezing, coughing (not blood thank god) sniffy, sore nose cold.
So, this morning, I thought, I'll text my clients and give them the option of re-booking next week if they don't want to be infected - they all said - whatever - we can wear masks, or I've got a cold anyway so it OK etc.
Which is fine, but my question is...........

How do you feel when a client turns up coughing & sneezing all over you when up until that point you were free from germs?

Do you, out of common courtesy, give your clients the option of re-appointing , as I did today?
Or do you just sneeze all over them and cough your way through your service??!?

I have done the same as you Bev i had a stinking cold last month called all my clients and they all wanted to go ahead !!! would i ask someone not to come if they had a cold .... i dont think so but then none of my client has ever asked if i minded xxx

I'd give them the option, its only common courtesy and they will appreciate that you took the time to think about their well being and health! If i went to an appointment and the person was spluttering all over me i'd be annoyed and end up rebooking but if i had a phone call saying that they were ill and giving me the chance to rebook.... well i just think that its the polite thing to do! Great thread Bev.xxx

the way to go is to ring them and ask if they want to re-schedule. If a clinet came to me full of cold, i would ask if they felt capable of continuing the treatment and then do the treatment if they said to continue.

I'm very lucky, I have a strong immune system and generally am not in the client's face for the treatment so not in the firing range.

Lucky you!

It's not so easy when they cough into their hand & then 'hand' their hand to you!!!!

I think I would still do treatment on my clients as therapy so that they feel good, that said, my immune system is quite strong so I can take it ;)

I would give my clients the option if I thought I could still work.

The other way around I would tell them to get to bed and that I didn't want their germs, it is hard but they're not being fair on you as you will loose money if you are ill! I once had a client come to the salon for a facial before I was mobile, she was off work sick with a cold and had decided to come for a facial! My boss greeted her at the door heard this story and sent her away, my boss couldn't believe she thought it was o.k to give us her germs!

Oh poor you Bev, i do hope you feel better soon!!
I think its nice to give clients the option if they want to come in or not when you have a cold. Some people i find are really dead set about not going near somone with a cold. Also certain people (such as the elderly) that do catch colds can become really ill from it.
So it's really nice i think, to give them the choice. On the other hand i also think they should ring you and ask if it's ok if i come in with a cold. I dont think i would walk into a salon with a snotty nose just out of respect for the therapist as we cannot afford to be ill lol
Great thread , i like it

Bev. hope you feel better soon xx

If I am struck down with the lurgy, then supposing I feel well enough to work, yes I always phone/text client to warn them so they have the option of re-scheduling. It always surprises me how many of them are not in the slightest bit bothered and say "oh well I could catch it off someone in Tesco . . . " (Yes but we are going to be in a confined space and trust me I'm going to breath and sneeze all over you . . . the odds are a little higher, I'm sure) but anyway

I just wish they would pay me the same courtesy. I've had clients here with all sorts, from tonsillitis, coughs and colds to shingles. It's not always obvious they're suffering straight away, depends what they'v got. And some of these things you can carry, without actually displaying the symptoms, and I don't want to put my family at risk particularly, well not more than necessary. But there we go, that's the beauty of the joe public and I guess it goes hand in hand with offering a service. But I don't have to like it:irked::lol:

If someone comes in with a stinker, btw, I use Vicks First Defence for a day and use Chloraseptic antiseptic throat spray a few times . . . that often seems to chase things off.

Get well soon Bev:hug:

I was thinking the very same thing on Monday when a client turned up looking like she was on deaths door!! (it makes me soo mad that they think it's ok to turn up and pass it all on to me) So as soon as she got in she asked to use the loo, I said yeh go ahead, While she was in there I took that as my chance to pop on one of my pink masks and explained when she returned it was because I couldn't afford to catch her cold/flu as I was soo busy working for myself and wouldn't have anyone to cover for me. (I think/hope she kinda got the message)
So that over with I popped to Tescos to get some groceries later on that day only to be served by a woman coughing her guts up into her hand and then passing me my items........ :irked: You can't win!!!

I've had that happen to me as well, it makes you want to wash all your groceries when you get home!!

I'm feeling a bit better thanks Blossom:hug:

I'm dosed up with beechams! Just finished work.

I'm going out to dinner tonight as well, typical!

when my clients are sick, they wear a mask, when I am sick "I WEAR A MASK" ....... SIMPLE. As well as the usual sanitisation methods used.

It's all about protecting each other .........

What you also have to be careful of..... is your own cancellation policy... if you require 24hrs notice, then you in turn should give your clients 24hrs notice (anything less is being a hypocrite). If I ever have to cancel an appointment, I reverse my cancellation policy and refund them the difference. I have a 3 hour cancellation policy (the first time they forfeit 50% of their appointment fee), second time 100%, if I ever cancel them within 3 hours I give them 50% off their next visit or 100% (which i've never had to do).

It's all about mutual respect and a 2 way street.

Anything less is onesided.

This is myself and my client who has a cold before a treatment.I also ring a bell in front of them as we walk to my treatment room.Unless we are both dressed like this and they have a cold i don't do them.

This is good advise but it's hard to do a facial when your client has a mask on!

This is what I did for my clients who wanted to come - all of them as it happens.
