hi all

I did a removal today (buff off gel) followed by a new set of acrylics. Very happy and so was the client with the set but it still took me 2 and a half hours! I`m really tryin to be quicker but I just cant seem to do it!! I have a meeting on Saturday with the owner of a high street hair salon who is interested in having me come in on a saturday - which would be fantastic but I am worried about my pace. She owns a few salons and said the tech in her other salon books clients in every hour on the hour! i did explain that I can take up to 1hr and 45mins! aarrggh - did this happen with anyone - did your speed increase or am i destined to be a nail snail  worried

I don't think that two and a half hours is bad for a removal and new set really,
and from a clients points of view i wouldn't want to go to a tech that has me in and out in an hour,
there cant be much care or chat involved in that hour,
i still take around an hour and half for a full set and in that time i take clients coat make them a cuppa and put the world to rights with our non stop chatter,
i did a removal and new set last Saturday and that took me nearly two and half hours (acrylic)

your times will improve when working in a salon and they do so naturally without you even noticing,
i find i work quicker if i ignore the clock, hth

I was just about to post the very same message!!... I don't think you're a snail at all. It would take me an hour and a half for a new set and an hour to do a full removal of gel so don't be worrying about that other girl, I'd rather take my time and do a good job:hug:

Hi,

Please don't be hard on yourself, you are doing what we all do, and that is doing it to the best of your ability by making sure all old product is off, clean slate so to speak.

The more you do nails, the quicker you will become, but you don't need to cut corners to suit this boss to be, at least you are honest with her.

And by having other nail techs there you will be able to see how they do things, and you learn little things off them as well.

Also, go to lots of salons, have your own nails done, and watch, take things in, ask questions... we all learn everyday.

I am still learning new things, and I have been doing Nails for 6 years.

Good luck with the new job, and please please don't be hard on yourself, I would rather someone like you who takes there time, then someone who will get me in and out like I am just a number..:)

thank you all

Having read your replies - I am feeling alot better as it seems I`m not as far off time wise as I`d thought. I guess I haven't worried too much till now as I work from home so tend to book clients in every 2 hrs which is fine by me and I also do the cuppa/coat/good old blether thing! I think the salon experience can only be a good thing - if not a challenge like you have said I will learn alot and naturally get quicker hopefully, and thats also a good idea about going to get my nails done - it would be interesting to see things from the clients point of view. I was honest with the owner as I thought it was best policy and I hasn't seemed to put her off (I was recommend to her from a friend) I guess i have to concentrate on doing a good job rather than a rushed one - which is what I have done up till now if you read my tag line lol.

You have helped immensely and I will sleep easy (yes these kind of things keep me up at night) cheers

Stop that thought, really, I have been that soldier and BELIEVE in yourself

Hi i know how you feel as im the same xx

Karen, I think your timing is quite normal you are not slow at all.

I think most people here take approx 1.5 - 2hrs then take into account your removal, stop worrying. x

Angel fingers does my nails usually and she takes 1 and a half hours.
When I did nails on a regular basis I also took 1 and a half hours, last time I did Kay's nails it took me 2 hours.
The quickest I have ever done a set of nail is 1 hour and 10 mins.
The lady did not speak a single word of English, she stared out of the window the whole time and never moved a muscle:eek:
Give me a chatty client every time:lol:
Forgot to add 1 and a half hours is for a fresh set, normal half trashed rebalance, 2 hours + lol

Thats not too bad at all! I usually take about fifty minutes to an hour for a soak off(acrylic not gel), although I've got it down to half hour now with a new soak off tray thingy I bought. Then I always allow an hour and a half for the new set, sometimes more if its a comlicated glittery arty set. I'm happy with this, and my clients are, knowing that I'm not clock watching. I am conscious of time, but I don't like to make it obvious!! So two and a half hours allowed for a soak off/file off seems fine. Please don't worry too much!!

Thanks Everyone  - I will TRY not too worry too much  it`s been good for me to listen to everyones experiences and as i said in my previous post to realise that I`m not too far off timing wise. So I`m forcing myself to be more confident! pinky promise.....

I wouldn't worry about timing. Your timing will come down naturally as you get more confident

My timing is terrible. I can take forever if I have forever and sometimes I am mortified at how long I can take - I talk too much lol!

However, on busy days I really surprise myself and can do a full set in an hour if I have to.

The busier you get, the quicker you'll get too.:)
