I did the Lycon course & absolutely loved it.

Love hot wax however when it comes to the top section of the lip, almost hood area it can sometimes get stuck? I really hate this

Was the hair long? My guess would be it was to long so the wax was just tangled into it. Or your patch may have been too big/round? Remember nice oblong, medium size strips are what we want to create with the wax.

Also if the client has strong/wirey hair... give the wax a little longer to set :) and always get the client to stretch upwards from the top of the pubic bone when you rip off :)

It want long as tangles always scare me!

I think you must be right about the patch being too round :)

Why is this?

I'm not a waxer yet (course in july) but found this thread, um, interesting to say the least. It has put me off progressing to Brazilian and Hollywood and has also made my cookie hurt reading it!!

:D xx

Hausofhana - don't be :) go to a good trainer and I promise it'll all be MUCH easier than you fear :)

Don't be put off. I actually love doing them (apart from that one experience)

Your clients will always come back after having their first brazilian.

It's just confidence & a good trainer as mentioned above :)

I was the worst waxer in my class at college and the very thought of doing a brazilian wax was just awful, but when I started on my own I felt that it was a service that I had to offer so took the plunge with Lycon...and I have to say I love it, much prefer it to doing a normal bikini, no knickers in the way, no desperately trying to get both sides even, it has improved my waxing tecnique and given me a lot more confidence whilst waxing, which lets face it is half the battle! To housofhana more and more people want this service now, and I charge 35 euros and it takes me on average 20-25 mins so businesswise so glad I did it....never heard it called a cookie before!!!

I always leave this area till last and make sure you leave a big lip to grab...the thing is everyone is different so you have to be prepared for allsorts I guess!

MisstyB do you find your constantly ordering hot wax? I do!!

However I do love it :)

I use the so berry

Usually its the way your holding your spalula... it helps in you hold it directly upwards not like a butter knife which is what we are taught with warm waxing. You want to be using the tip of you spatula at an angle to mould the hairs into the wax and create an oblong medium sized patch as these are easier to remove.

Lycon so berry is nice but dries too quickly and can be brittle. My personal favourites are the Olive hot (amazing flexability, amazing durability, and results and so hydrating) and Magnifico hot for really tough hairs :)

No I am finding the wax is lasting quite well, (i use the hazelnut and chocolate) I think Emma Rose is right, that you need to forget everything that you've learnt at college and press the spatular down firmly into the hair then extend it to get a nice long patch, I actually put less on my spatula than I was first shownas found I was leaving a lot on there. I havent used the so berry yet.....I know a lot of people love it!

The olive oil is lovely to...I am finding the cream based hot waxes work better in this hot spanish climate though, I guess its just what you get used to though.
xx

I've literally just done a client & she said she used to go to Strip for a hot wax but she prefers strip wax for her Brazilian. I guess everyone's different hey?

I might try the magnifco hot wax next time.I order.

Thanks for this guys, im really conscious how I hold my spatula I guess I'm not pressing on the hairs hard enough

I too like the creme based waxes better in a hot climate.

Firstly always be prepared for the unprepared or unusual clients! I have experinced all sorts and doing male intimate waxing aswell lets just say men are not the cleanest of creatures

Secondly NEVER use strip wax on an intimate area... or any sensitive area really. Strip wax will not give you a clean finish if you have a client with excessive or strong hair growth (post shavers/polycystic ovary clients etc.) It just breaks the hair or gets stuck and very messy :( also it hurts a hell of lot more than hot wax.

Thirdly once you have the hang of hot wax dont be afraid to get in there, always have one hand gloved (the hand you press with) and use this as your stretching hand. Good firm stretches show the client your confident and keeps them comfortable. With regard to asking the client to stretch upwards, I highly recommend it once the wax is on and set of course :) The better the stretch the less pain!!

And lastly always trim the hair if it is to long to avoid tangling!!

Hope that helps :)
I specialise in male and female Brazilian waxing and I have never had a guy that wasn't clean……….they are spotless! They wouldn't dare:)

I wear gloves on both hands………why one? Just curious.

I never get my clients to stretch………..I do it all myself with great force.

Hey Kim,

Well I used to do approx 16 clients a day and most had a braz or h/wood so by wearing one glove it saves you another 16 for the next day!!

I never touch the client with my ungloved right hand (spatula hand) as I only hold spatulas in it and rip wax with it... it never has skin to skin contact as my left hand is my press and stretch hand... if Im feeling flash I will flick the wax of with my spatula ;) only when Im training though... not sure clients would appreciate my circus skills!

Hey hun,

This is my area of expertise thanks to being a head therapist at Strip waxing boutique in London :)

All the other geeks have given you great advice but I thought I would share my tips anyway!

I really don't get this - if a man is going to go to the trouble of getting himself waxed, why would he not be bothered about personal hygiene? Surely the 2 go hand in hand?

Floss,

If I only I knew the mentality of men and why they were not always clean and the same goes for woman too... Im not just picking on blokes! I agree most of them will be all neat and tidy and maybe even shower twice on the day of a wax but their are a select few that dont. Not sure why everyone is getting so hung up on the comment I made about some clients being unclean :|

Thanks loveleelady... I think you should... being in the circus is fun :p

Well ladies, you've made me laugh and taught me a lot. I attended a intimate waxing workshop at college given by one of my tutors and she uses both hot and strip wax.
She starts with laying down hot wax on the inner areas and while that is setting up she goes ahead with the strip wax on the outer area's, it makes for a very quick service. She also got her model to hold a wooden spatula in place so that the labia were clearly out side, this seemed to make it very easy for her to lay the hot wax exactly where it was needed.
I'm still sitting on the fence when it comes to waxing blokes, guess it's because I've heard every single crude joke out there from all sorts of blokes once they hear that I 'do waxing' even my own brother thinks he's funny:rolleyes:
But a lot of ladies have asked me for this service so I'll get in touch with Kim soon to book another course with her, but I'm not using my daughter as a model for that one, there are some things that a mother and daughter should not, ever share and that's defiantly one of them:o

Not sure what type of male clients that your salon attracts... But I only wax men and have loads of really nice clients and never have come across men that are as unclean as you say!!...
