Is there really any need for cash any more? If cash was withdrawn and we all banked electronically would it make a better society, cash deals would be no more!! tax evasion and illegal employment would be easier to prove,How would junkies buy drugs or deal in stolen goods without an electronic trail to link them to who they sold stuff onto
illegal immigrants would not get an account so how could they buy anything maybe britain wouldnt be so attractive to them?
In a few years time we could we all be carrying a mobile/pc and personal bank in our pocket and be able to instantly transfer funds between our selves
you can already get a card that you load yourself regardless of your credit history and even children could be given one for pocket money ect
I never carry cash everything is plastic and paid on the debit card:lol:
Discuss !! lol

Steve - the Government would love you! They'd be able to have even more "Big Brother" influence if they could do that! Look at how they already are with the ID card scheme, as well as the UK having more CCTV cameras per thousand people than any other country...

The junkies would just swap the stolen goods for drugs from the drug dealers, no cash needed.

1 person would be legal and the other 30+ would be illegal, just like they do with driving licence's and insurance and everything else.

Are you secretly wanting to be an MP

But how easy would it be for someone thats not you to use your card? Or would chip and pin help that? BTW on the same track, i don't understand how the new swipe card systems can prevent fraud.

I like debit cards, but am not so keep on credit. Credit scares me, i lack self control, lol.

A lot of people almost never carry cash now.

Ruth its my opinion that the only people who dont want id cards possibly have something to hide !!
I would have one tommorow and i dont care if Big brother knows where i am as they already do now
They can ping your phone at any time if your a terror suspect/serious criminal ect your car is constantly on cctv your purchases are already logged and i dont have a problem with it TBH
If your an honest person paying taxes and here legally why object to it, what if we all had a chip like the dogs have in there necks inserted in your hand and used it over a scanner as id and bank account would people cut your hand off to Defraud you?
as technology moves on who knows what will happen, there are millions of fake pound coins and false notes in circulation something needs to be done
and another thing why pay benefits in cash
for certain members of the underclass to spend our taxes on drugs booze and **** and to not pay there bills surely it would be better to pay utilitity/rent bills direct and give them tokens for FOOD!!(not drugs or alcohol ) and a small amount of cash its still tant amount to a welfare state but would not be as open to abuse or as attractive as a way of life to some people,
And on the MP thing yes i would so i can claim for a new garden shed, get someone in to decorate, have a holiday home in london and let my sister live there whilst charging her rent, ect ect :irked::irked: I just Hate how unjust this country has become the labour party used to be the party for the working classes now it just crucifies us

You may well be right there; I however don't want the Government snooping into my personal affairs all the time. I certainly don't do anything illegal, but would definitely consider myself to be "alternative" (especially with being trans and whatnot) - just imagine what would happen if New Labour get all that Big Brother infrastructure set up, and then someone fascist like the BNP gets in and starts persecuting anyone who's a bit "different"... that would be quite horrendous!

It's easier to have your identity stolen when using cards. It's more expensive to process cards etc... than cash, and who will have to pay for that?!
More people are likely to overspend if they pay everything by card. They can't actually see their money so it's easier to spend and then BANG... bank charges, overdrawn charges.
Because card transaction cost more, a lot of retailers have a minimum spend, so, what if you went into a shop and you just wanna buy a bag of crisps! It's only 50p but you gotta pay for the transaction too.
I think it's a really bad idea.
I don't like the idea of big brother watching you!
I actually quite like living in a democracy but, we are heading towards a nanny state and i'd emigrate if that ever happened!

The thought of a cashless society frightens the life out of me and I am a law abiding person who pays taxes etc.

I have had direct payments via telephone banking go missing. It wasnt for a huge amount but it took them 3 weeks of phoning the catalogue and the banks confirming I had paid for them to finally say that it was ok.

I have computers crash or refuse to process my details from government agencies. If I had a pound for everytime I was told it was a computer error I would be rich.

Cash is simple and straight forward and does not involve the computer saying "no"

I am just one of those people that throws the computers into some kind of turmoil and the thought of everything being computer controlled fills me with horror and dread.

As a result I always pay by cash if I can. I have had my card refused at petrol stations for no good reason. There was money in my account etc as I had to use the cash machine to draw out money to pay for my petrol. What would I have done then if there is no cash.

Technology needs to be more reliable. Maybe its just me LOL
