My In-laws are being very generous and offering to take us on holiday in May half term.
They've suggested Cornwall, but I think that's for me as my nan lives there and it's where I grew up.

I'm happy to go anywhere, but havent got a clue.
Where have you been and loved?
We will of course have our 4 year old and 3 year old with us, so needs to be somewhere with places to visit that kids wont get bored.

I think they will want to stay in a cottage/house rather then chalets.

Thanks geeks

I havent really been on many UK holdays, but this year we considered going to the Haven Holiday park in Dorset, or the Centre Parcs in the New Forest. They both look like lovely places and have got something for all ages, why dont you have a look on their websites?

To be honest we've decided to go abroad now. The idea was to have a UK holiday this year because it would be cheaper, but actually its more expensive than going abroad:eek:.

If you dont mind travelling a long way how about the Island of Mull we have rented cottages there several times, there is loads to do, some lovely beaches, the tourist board has a treasure hunt for the kids which coveres the whole island, there are lovely walks, nature trails, wildlife stuff, food, restaurants and peace and quiet.

I love it there, you may have guessed.

My favorite places to go on holiday with the kids are, and my kids are coming up 5 and coming up 12, Whitby and the Lake District.
We always find things to do no matter what the weather and the kids never complain about a thing, bliss.

Park Foot Ullswater - Welcome
Visit Whitby - Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK

Centre parcs is when we go for our winter holiday.

oh Ria come to southport hun, lol big tourist town, plenty of B&B, hotels and carvan parks, and loads to do for kids, dunes splashworld, miniature village, loads of diff days in the parks arranged etc etc, and you and me could go shopping and talk nails pmsl only joking

theres some nice parks around like haven ones, i love wales and find theres plenty of free stuff for kids of all ages and adults too

or we've done oasis, that was nice, bit more relaxed and outdoorsey tbh, i prefer the haven/pontins type places for me n my kids

did go to scarborough one year that was gorgeous again it was a butlins type place, but area was nice

let us know where you decide xxx

I love dorset and especially weymouth.Haven at weymouth bay is a small site, a lot are private owned mobile homes so its not too brash and busy and there will be loads to do for the children, they have the haven mates that keep them entertained dancing etc.My children when young loved it.
Weymouth and the surrounding areas have loads to see and do.

Ohh some great ideas, will have a look into those areas.
Hadnt thought of Weymouth, my brother went to uni down there so he'd know all the best pubs!
Nicky if we come your way of course we'd have to meet up.
I personally have nothing agaisnt caravan/holiday camps but I dont think the In-laws would go for it.
So I will look for cottages/holiday lets in those areas.

Thank you geeks

I also loved Whitby but not sure its got enough for kids.

How about somewhere like Ribby Hall holiday village outside Blackpool? They have static caravans (mostly privately owned so well kept), cottages, lodges and a hotel so you can take your pick of accomodation. They have fishing lakes, horse riding, swimming, a beauty salon, etc. Something for everybody! Plus its location means that you are not in Blackpool but theres a bus stop right outside or taxis are allowed on-site so easy to get into town for the day. Short breaks & holidays - Ribby Hall Village Holiday Park

I will also be looking for a UK holiday this summer as my bump won't let me fly anywhere this year so I'll be checking out people's recommendations :)

We too had the most fantastic holiday in Mull last year. It's a beautifuk island, good food, friendly people, some gorgeous cottages available that are also very well priced! We plan to go back some day.

If you like to 'get away from town' then Mull is wonderful. If you are someone who likes a lot of organised things to do and shops to wander round....you may find it a littel quiet! Personally I'm happy as long as I have the sea and mountains...and plently of beautiful walks and climbs!

We're thinking of trying Ireland this year.

TENBY

TENBY

It is the best place on earth in my opinion...
There is so much to do...
Lovely beaches...
Countryside in abundance...

I could actually go on and on...but to spare other geeks feelings I shan't....

It is just the best place for families with children....better than the best...
and it is not commercialised at all....

I love it...more than love it...xxxxxxxxxxx

my favourite holiday destination in the u.k is ............................................
ST. IVES in CORNWALL
theres lots of cottages to rent. the beaches are perfect. boat trips.watersports, walks, fabulous little shops and galleries. lovely pubs and retaurants.

is mega popular, but isnt at all commercialised and tacky. i hate destinations that are all amusement arcades and cheapo souvenir shops.

i have a standing joke with my hubby that if we ever have a mega row and walk out, i'll be heading in the direction of st ives:lol:
