it's a tough call.
Looking back...
I was 17yrs old, struggling to get food in my fridge, working for minimum wage. Life was abysmal at best... lived on peanut butter sandwhichs most of the time. I had moved out at 16 from under parents roof, due to an abusive situation. I had only a highschool education, and my dep in cosmetology.. but at the time, the job market was flooded with cosmo students, and very few positions were available.
I was a VERY mixed up kid with mega baggage. I wanted to further my education and do something with my life other than live in a 1 1/5 room apartment and live on peanut butter.
Back then, YES I probably would have done it. Who knows.
Move forward to when I was 21-24yrs of age. I had a great job as office admin, pulling in a good salary and awesome benefits and bonus's.. I had sorted out my past and had a great future ahead of me. On top of the world. Decent small aparment, all furnished with my 'own' stuff... went out with friends, etc..
No, I would NOT have done it. I say this without a doubt.
Move forward again.
I'm 36, with two children who will need college AND university in the future. Days of working up the ladder long gone. You need a diploma just to flip a burger or answer a telephone these days.
I have a roof that needs doing among other things. A hubby burning himself out, working two jobs who never gets enough hours with the kids...
A strain on our relationship, because of his stress levels.
A business in which I want to further my education again, and would love to open my own place.
Would I? To secure the futures of my children? To give my hubby a MUCH DESERVED break?
I really don't know.
Very tempting.
Part of me shouts vehemently NO:!: Another part ponders.
As for it being prostitution...
While I don't agree with prostitution for reasons of my own, I dont frown upon it.
Why?
Simply because we ALL sell our bodies every day. Just in different ways. Is your body not sold when you use your skills to do nails? It's your body doing the work, you can't lift a brush with your mind. Is your body not sold if you work in a warehouse, loading and unloading boxes... this is physical labour for which you are paid.
Models sell their bodies for people to look at. I can't think of a solitary job where your mind does all the work. At some point, you DO HAVE TO USE your body to get some work done for which you are PAID.
I think what it is that people object to are the moral issues, or what they perceive to be moral issues due to how they've been trained to think on this subject throughout the years. And yes, we were trained to think this way... there's no two ways about it.
People argue that it's demeaning etc... Ok, for the drug addict selling her body for a fix.. Not an ideal situation. But for the highclass escorts that cost a mint? or for those working in the LEGAL bordellos in the states.... Not the same at all.
Would I want one of my daughter's to do it? No. Why? Partly because of how I've been trained to think by society BUT MOSTLY due to the judgement she'd receive if she did it by those in the rest of the world.
Having said all of that.
Do I think negatively of Anna for having done what she did?
Nope. Not one bit. She had her reasons. Everyone was happy. Consenting adults and all of that.
it's an interesting debate, that's for certain.
