I like it too. Personally, I'm not a big fan of long whites, but this is a magazine shoot, and it gives a dramatic look.

I agree with what was said earlier - it's nice to see a cover that focuses on just the nails for a change!!!:green:

i like it - i don't think the nails are awful as described earlier, wish my nails looked like that.

I know everyone has different tastes, but its unfair to slate someones nails/work - and to people that do I always think, so come on then can you do any better? Lets see what yours would look like as a cover shot. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? xx:irked:

I like the pic in general ...however ...i will never ever get use to the whites that long :|

No i can't !

I personally would never slate someones work, that is completely different to saying you dislike them IMO.

Just because i am not anywhere near the level i would need to be at to have my work publicaly showcased doesn't mean i don't have the "eye".

Imo the work on a front cover of an industry publication (wether or not it is the main focus) should be flawless, beautifull and technically nigh on perfect.

xx

The whole composition of the shot really appeals to me. Ok personally I wouldn't ware nails like this, but I don't think that's what they are aiming for here.

Just a general photo of a set of nails.

Whether we like them or not is not the issue IMO. The shot itself makes it's own statement, and I reckon it's done it's job.

You go girl!!! And you are right.

Most of us can appreciate a good painting even if we haven't the skill to paint it ourselves.

Likewise even a 'wet behind the ears' beginner can spot flaws in nails even if they can't produce perfection themselves. You certainly can have the 'eye' long before you have the artistic ability.

No one has slated the nails on the cover! If they had, we would have deleted the posts. That is why we have the great team of moderators here who work so hard to see that 'slating' and other stuff does not occur.

Though not everyones taste and certainly not natural-looking, this image is not very different from any other on any nail magazine in countless countries around the world ,and better than many I have seen on the cover of 'Scratch' which have no focus on nails at all (which seems strange for a nail magazine)!

I will say however that the pose has been blatently copied from my photo except they swapped the hands around. I do prefer the natural look of the nails I did but that is personal.

Enough said (the pic's speak for themselves imo) :lick: (i'll add the smiley before anyone else does ) :green:

Blimey so it has, I prefer the more natural look too, but I stand by what I orginally said, its nice to see nails as the main focus, even if the picture is not orginal:lol:

I say beauty (especially where nails are concerned) is in the eye of the beholder. The same as none of us will ever agree on hairstyles, clothes or interior design, we are bound to have different opinions on what a good set of nails should look like.

As has already been pointed out, a cover shot is different from salon nails anyway, and maybe the stark white tips make more dramatic impact than a set which look ultra-natural.

I generally try to make the nails that I do look as natural as possible; if people have to ask clients if their nails are acrylics or not then I consider that a huge compliment. However I wouldn't say I don't do nails which look like the cover pic, if one of my clients wanted that look I would oblige and as long as she was over the moon I would be more than happy. :green:

Hey Blossom ..... I can do porn star nails too and Barbie doll nails ... I DO WHAT THE CLIENT WANTS ... it is just not my prefered look.

Ooops didn't mean to offend anyone.

The actual picture is beautiful, just not keen on that type of nail. It is only my opinion and I much prefer the nails on the creative poster.

Those who have said it is a great cover shot are of course right, maybe I put my opinion of the nails across a bit too bluntly.

I don't produce perfect nails and can take criticism of any of my work, and one set I did recently were rightly criticised, cos they weren't my normal standard.

Was basically just comparing this shot to the Creative Solar Manicure nails. No slating intended.

I can see where you were coming from, and I am sure that most would agree that the nails in both shots couldn't be more different, the Solar Pics are all stunning

I prefer the term CRITIQUED,criticised makes it sound unkind

At the risk of sounding dumb... what are Barbie doll nails?
I understand Porn Star nails (Tanya Turner Stylee) but never heard of Barbie doll ones :)

Barbie doll nails are the ones that are bubblegum pink with white white tips. Extreme in every way.

I just gotta have a set.

I love the cover shot, especially the way the water makes some of the nails look distorted, it captures the 'movement' of the water. I have alot of clients that love this look, it's all down to personal preference I suppose xx

If I had made a set of nails for a cover shot only to have the photo image distort them I would personally be livid .... don't points of view differ!!

Totally agree with last post, at least the Creative nails are beautiful and natural looking, thought we had moved away from the "Footballers Wives look".

I've haven't renewed my subscription for this year because i feel i'm not getting any inspiration from the magazine.
