I have had a right hard time doing these nails today.
The client had such short & very wide, hard bitten nails & she was looking to keep them short, but wanted the P&W's.
I did this client about 3 yrs ago, when I had no custom blend experience. I used white tips on her back then & she was happy.
Well, today I sculpted a custom blend using 'CND Warm' and perfect colour white.
My god, was she fussy, that's chunky here, that's got a lump it in, don't they look horrible (having just took the forms off) I don't want a ridge (cuticle zone 3), don't do them too thick, I hate thick nails, they look so false, thin them out.....
I had to listen to this, I ended up explaining her nails were very short, were very wide & had a thickness (like a big toe) I did not want to thin them so she had no structure and all that.
In the end I thinned them to less than credit card thinness at the free edge, but I was not happy and explained that I will do them as she wants, but cannot be sure of the strength.
She'd never had sculpts before, but I thought I'd be able to give her more strength that a tip on these.
The nails were dirty, she had nicotine stains on her nails and skin, her free edge of the nail bed, no nail plate at the end were dirty, she did wash them before and my prep pulled of loads of muck :Scared: yet she gave me all this verbal.
In the end she thought they looked lovely & was happy. I have no idea what I think, they were a bloody nightmare from beginning to end.
I also performed a basic pedi & french polished her toes & she'd turned up in high heeled boots and socks FFS! I did her toes first, then just before she left, wrapped them in cling film & she put on her socks & boots.
I wonder why I bothered.

I love what you did with her nails Bev.. I know how hard it is to make a nail biter's nails like this look nice , but you did a fab job.. can't believe she was so fussy (I can almost smell those fingers from here).. fair play to you!

Hi Bev

I love how these have turned out. Hope it didn't take to long as you had to listen to her rabbit on... lol I havent used the custom blend yet to you mix the colour yourself or can you buy this colour so when her nail grows you wont see her free edge.. sorry im a bit dumb lol xx

This is a colour I bought from Sweet Squared, I got the cool, neutral & warm opaque pinks. I seem to use the warm mostly.
There is a tutorial about custom blending on the site, where Sam has given us the 'mix' of powders for each type of colour.

Fab transformation Bev ! :green:

Even if she was a fussy moo, bet she was chuffed to bits with those little babies.

Did you need a stiff drink after her appointment ?!

Wow Bev, what a transformation, you done a fantastic job under very difficult circumstances, hard enough job for you let alone her pointing this and that out.

I love seeing before and after pics. Can I ask, did you manage to get the form under her free edge, well so to speak lol, or did you place it as close to the free edge as possible? I have got a client like this next week and was toying with the idea of sculpting.

Once again I just have to say fab hun

Hi Fifi,

I butted it up to what was left of any nail plate & bed! Had to tailor a couple to get the shape at the edge, so as not to get any seeping onto the skin.
All the while I was prepping - 30mins! I was thinking to myself, what the hell shall I do with these - sculpt or tip, sculpt or tip. I decided to try a sculpting form (CND Performance) on the worst looking nail and see how well I could get it to fit. It went on like a dream, so that swayed it for me. Also, as I needed to TRY and create a strength to these, I thought the best option would be sculpting.
Crikey, I reckon I'd still be in there now, trying to fit a tip onto those babies, with gelbond too!
xxxxx

I think these are a really good job, you are very skillfull. Some people can be right pains but she is away happy - you have a few dollars more - and that is the main thing. :)
All the same I personaly would have found it very difficult (especially with the initial state of her nails) to not remark to her that anything would be better than the state her nails were in. Not professional I know but then we are only human and this character of a client always takes its toll during the service and after. And have you ever noticed that it is the clients with the worst nails who are the fussiest and bossiest clients. Beats me! :irked:

That's so true. I was pretty gobsmacked with all she said, particularly as she was normally quite happy to walk around with those on display.
I smiled to her and seethed inside me, but said nothing to her, apart from my concerns about her suggesting they were thinner - funnily enough, she wanted them thinner than her own nails?? Like I'm about to trash what she had left - not.
I sometimes cannot get my head round people, they were a bit horrid, and I made them quite a bit nicer, but she was so particular & eyeing up each nail BEFORE i'd finished my file and buffing off - at one time she said to me ...they are ridged here! I'd not got round the that particular bit, and pointed that out to her, saying & smiling sweetly - that's because I'm still working on getting the sidewalls right - I'll be there next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oops forgot to do ratings!

just the kind of nails i HATE doing:green::green::green:

You did a fab job

Amb x:hug:

Wow these are beauties. They actually remind me of one of my clients nails but all of them were like the left pinkie nail when she first started to come to me. Nearly a year later and we are now on a natural nail overlay! It's taken a long time but she's getting there.

And yes I can just smell those nails!! If that was my nails I would have been so embarrassed, probably so embarrassed I wouldn't even go and get my nails done by a professional. Some people eh!

Well done though they look wonderful. I used the warm pink custom blend for the first time on my new client tonight, I was dead pleased but I'm not so sure she was. Some people are so hard to please :|

Quite a bit nicer - you changed them completely and done an excellant job. I have had clients with nails like this also who have been turned away by nail techs in the city, (don't want to name name's) yes, I was surprised too. But they were turned away and told that they could'nt do anything with them and to come back in a month when they have grown. So don't worry, I had one client like yours, same type of nails, same attitude and dreaded her coming. It annoyed my time before she came and after she left. But you know what - I got used to her and she is now a regular and I get on with her very well and like her. So you never know! :)

You have done a lovely job... well done

hi bev,
Ive had a few customers like this before!! ur not alone...but u done a fab job well done.. Ive only just started doin CB, only heard about it on here few months ago! shame on me Ive been doing nails 7 years!! i just plodded along with the masque shades or putting opal shimmer in radiant pink to disguise....but the last 3 ladies ive done with the custom blend ive been really happy about.. though had to grind my powders, as too grainy!!!

Hiya,

I don't think you'll be able to buy CND products just now as your not trained in CND, but, you could go for a L&P CONVESION COURSE! You'll be able to get your hands on these fabby powders then!
Have a look at this Tutorial by Samuel, it's the dogs. You may have NSI powders you could substitue to help you 'create' a similar look......
