Be Honest Would You offer Fish Pedicure

I know there are several threads on this, but I have just seen an advert for Garra Rufa fish for the pedicure for sale. This is a targeted ad ~ solely (scuse the pun) for a pedicure.

They are shipped here in clear plastic water filled bags, for you to add straight to a water tank.

I would love to offer this (although I do not have my shop anymore). If I had a shop though I would be tempted because like most things its a head turner and people will come to try this 'new craze'.

I am a realist I look to take things on to make money especially in the current cliamte although I do consider the quality/safety and ethics too.

So I suppose ethically this is a little wrong or is? If you could charge £40 to leave someone to soak their feet in a tank of water for 30 mins ~ would you?

My only concern is that I think its wrong to ship the fishies over ~ surely lives will be lost on the long journey from hong kong!?!

what is the point of this pedicure, I dont get it!! Do the fish swim in the water around the feet?? what benefit does it have or is it just a fad?

I have real issues with the transportation of live animals anyway over long distances, and yes I do eat meat but it is local meat. If in doubt I dont eat it.

The fish eat dead skin cells so they are lovely and smooth.

I have asked lots of my clients and they would ~ but for novelty value. Its like the chocolate facial ~ clients have one out of curiosity but thats it.

I would do it but then when it all goes quiet I wonder what you do with the fish? Theres only so many a time you can flush down the toilet lol! (I am really kidding about that bit ~ I bury my fish when they die!!)

I'd like to offer it for the novelty value. I'm not sure if it would have any really followers or if it would be a once only thing.

However, i don't think i'll ever do it. Not only because of the poor fishies transport, but taking care of them after and how to maintain hygiene.

but boy what an extreme way to go about it....

I hate feet....infact there is no way I can touch other people's feet....so this might be a good idea for me to get into.

I have a fish tank....if I chucked out my fish and put in some special skin suckers I could get around my foot phobia and offer pedicures :lol::lol::lol:
My fish tank is about 5 feet from the floor though....so I hope the clients are flexible with their legs

On a serious note it's an interesting concept and I can see upmarket spa's and salons offering it and it being accepted....
but I can't see the local high street salon getting much call for it....or the home salon....
Is the UK ready for fish pedicures?
( I'm not keen on the import idea...but then the tropical fish I have in my tank are more than likely to have been imported )

I know nothing more about beauty products than your average person/client.... except for nails stuff that is, but i saw this thread and just had to reply!!!!!
There is absolutely no way I could put my feet into a tank of fish water!!!! I too have a tropical fish tank and im not too keen ton the feeling if one touches me whilst Im cleaning it. My boyfriend cant even feed them incase one touches him... he wont go in the sea incase a fish comes near and he doesnt eat them either... I think he has a rather unexplained phobia of them. Personally, I dont like feet either, I performed a few pedicures when I was a full time nail tec and my first client had just got off a ferry from Ireland, it was a baking hot day and she had socks and trainers on!!! This really put me off!!! I managed to do a couple after that but my "stomach" really wasnt in it... Shame really because I had a lot of potential for doing a pedicures. No matter how much I tried, I just couldnt do it. Now i will do Acylic or gels on my friends toes but I will NOT touch the feet.... Is this strange??
Anyway as for the fish, am really not sure how that will take off, I think it will either take off or (swim or sink lol hehe :lol it wont.... Great thread tho

I would not offer it. I find it quite revolting.

Wouldn't there be import laws surrounding the live fish? If they are not fish you already have in your country of origin, you can't just "mail" some in for your own use surely. Customs and Quarantine would be interested in it for sure.

That is what I don't understand about some peeps....are they not embarrassed?

You know how some folk would clean their house before their cleaner came...I would do a pedicure on my own feet before I went for a pedicure :lol:

I wonder if the fish would ever go 'no way...not going near those feet' and swim to the other side of the tank?

How much would you expect to charge for this service? £40 was mentioned...is that how much it costs?
How much do the fish cost in the first place?
I'm really curious now lol....

i think it may actually work people are suckers for anything new and gimmicy like that if they can get over the thought of having there feet in a bowl full of fish!

lol, i am EXACTLY the same as your boyfriend lol. This is my idea of hell! never in a million years would i try it.
That aside, I dont really like the idea of buying these fish to stick in a bowl of feet, i agree it just seems a little wrong and not too hygeinic either- do you give the fishies a bath after to get 'foot germs' off them to stop germs spreading, or maybe sterilise them!? :lol:

IF I could source the fish from a good breeder or seller, I was positive I could keep them well and it was an insurable treatment then yes, I'd offer it. I have my hands in my smaller tropical tank every week for water changes and have quite a few of the fish that come and nibble at fingers, especially when my skin is very dry on my hands, the fish seem to home in on that and its fascinating to me.

My understanding is this is something that was happening in the native countries of the species of fish in question for a very long time in the wild and it has grown into a treatment as the benefits were noticed. I'd love to try it myself.
