 Well guys, it is time to call it. I would love to be amazing at nails, or even just do them good and they stay on. Last week i posted a thread about popits as have had loads of teethin problems but a couple of fab sets. Well i thought ide sussed it, went and did brand new clients recommended by a friend, they set off on there holls the next day, and her daughter lost her first one at the airport, and the mum lost four, just popped off like they popped on. she left the last six on, and she said on the phone the re growth looked horrendouse so took them all off. They lasted not even a week. She had booked in for lots of other treatments for her and her daughter but has rang today to say the nails fell off and looked terrible and to cancel there other treatments. I am gutted, i have tried so hard to get it right and thought i had, but obviously not, they now look good when first done, but look shocking after a fewdays if they last that long.Gonna concentrate on what i good at and sell my extension stuff once and for allxx

I'm not going to start my thread by saying 'oh no, hang on in there, you'll gt it soon enough'!!!! If your hearts not in it then your probably doing the right thing to stop offering the service and focus on the services that you are better at a feel better about doing.

I have been having the same battle with myself about nails, I do them well and never really get any complaints but my heart is just not in it. I offer a lot of other treatments that I am better at and happier to do so I don't think it'll be long before i'm doing the same as you and calling it a day!!!

Now, if you feel like its a temporary blip them perhaps a bit more training or a 121 session may help, but on the other hand, if you don't feel that buzz about nails then it would be a waste of money that you could spend elsewhere within your business.

Big hugs xx

Go to this website:

Young Nails - Nail Art Products for Professionals

And go to the Education section. They have awesome step by step instructions that you can apply to any product line. They also have videos. And the Mani-Q tutorial in the Step-By-Step instructions has great advice on nail prep.

I say this because I was having a lot of trouble with lifting myself. But once I followed these steps that the Young Nailz guys gave (and also using their products) I can't believe the change!

So please don't stop now! It'll only get better I promise.

Thank u guys, to be honest i just seem to be throwing good money after bad. I would love to be able to do them and have clients coming back regular, but i just can not see it happening. I have tried every system, from gel to acrylic, paid for one to one, did an amazing set in training and told i was a natural with acrylic, but just keep making cock ups, cock ups that i can not afford. I have done practice sets till they have come out of my ears wanting swo much to perfect them and do a set i could be proud of. When the popits came out i thought they were the answer to my prayers, reduce my timeing down, everything. but no, it has just been one prblem after anouther. I watched geeg doing the nails and thought i can do this, i have a great set in my album, they just grow out horrendously thats if they stay on, i have been very carefull in regards to prep, sizing of the popit and thought last week i had cracked it. they looked fab, no air bubbles, done in an hour, and then came the blow, she had shockin nails and her daughter from day one of there holiday. I would love to do a work experience one day a week and work along side a pro and become good at them, but oportunity like that do not come about very often.
I am a new business and can not afford to loose my ladies because of the nail extensions i am doing. time to call it once and for all and leave it to the artists, it hurts to say it, but not half as much as when i took that call as all i ever want to do is please my ladies.
I have my levcel 3 in nails which covers all three systems, have paid for one to one, and one to one with geeg, practiced till i had used hundreds of pounds of products, booked in for creative training at coventry, which i would have been doin tomo but they cancelled it as not enough people on course and not lookin like they will have anything till almost christmas. My leaflets i have had done have an amazing offer on for popits, but it tough cos i can not afford to loose people because of them, i give up:cry:

I've had a look at the youngs nails tutorials before and they are fab!
They do definitely make you want to grab your nail kit and start practising!!!

Thanks for the link xx

I think it takes a brave person to stand up and say:

'D'ya know what, I'm not so great at this so i'm gonna stop doing it but continue to be positive and offer the services i'm good at'

You shouldn't feel too down about your decision, If you are making it for all the right reasons then you should stay focused on your other services and offer an outstanding service to your clients.

If your hearts not in it your clients will know.

I'm sure there are plenty of other services you offer which you know you do well and have no worries about....focus on these!!

xx  xx

I see what you are saying about clients cancelling other treatments due to the nails....I've had it myself.

From what I have read you are a waxing/beauty professional, doing a bit of nails. I was a nail professional doing a bit of waxing and I have kicked the waxing to the kerb, I didn't enjoy doing any waxing treatments, so I'm hands and feet only now.

Only you know what is the right decision and where your passion lies

I feel for you but if its how you feel then so be it.

You have other strings to you bow and if this work makes you happier then I'd go with it.

Sounds to me like you have made a brave and sensible decision :hug::hug:

I agree, if you're not comfortable performing a treatment then either you practice until you are happy or stop offering it.

It's a shame but there's no point spending money on nails if its not working for you, you're better off putting your efforts into something that you enjoy and that works well for you. I think you have made a sensible decision for the time-being but there's nothing stopping you coming back to nails in the future - good luck hun!

I feel for you ...... I also admire what you are doing/saying.

All along I have and will maintain that it takes a certain kind of person to do nails. I've also mentioned previous posts that if you are multi-skilled, but not particularly fab at something, it may lead to losing exsisting clients in other areas.

MOVE ON and specialise in something you love .... you love the end results and your clients love you for it. There's no shame in giving up something you are not confident in, or confident with the end results.

From your post it seems you have been quite persistent in your efforts.
BUT .... also you have lost appointments for other services due to what happened with the nail side of things.

Many will say "keep trying", but what if it was brain surgery and you were operating on their family, ... after their mother had flatlined, would they still say "keep trying, here, practise on my father"? There are some things we are just not cut out to do.

Call these clients .... offer them a freebie service (not nails) and explain how you feel about what happened with the nails), it's called "laying your cards on the table", i'm sure they will appreciate your honesty, just tell em "sorry about the ****ty nails, and I'll give you a credit in beauty service", this may cost you initially, but if they are a client all year round, you will pick up the cost of this olive branch soon enough.

GOOD LUCK, whatever you decide.

I agree with the rest of the posters, I think you have made a good decision, and well done you for realising and not keep flogging a dead horse. No point in putting the rest of your business in jeopardy, better to cut your losses.
And good advice from Carl as usual, at least you would be showing your clients you care about them and don't want to lose them..x

I think you have made the right decision. I always say, when it stops being fun then stop doing it.

I have always found everything to do with nails the greatest fun ... I would never even think about doing waxing as it would bore me to tears.

I have always specialized and I have always gone to specialists in their field for treatment of any kind. Specialising is good!

Well nobody can say you didn't try Jenny and well done for making that decision. I know you specialise in Jessica natural nail care so i hope that part of your business goes from strength to strength:hug:..xx

Good Luck hun!! im sure you will be a huge success in the treatments you specialise in & enjoy!!

Its such a shame but only you know whats right for you!!

xxx

Jenny you specialise in waxing and that is what your primary clients want so dont worry about the nails as the other posters have said you've made a brave descision to stop and now put ALL your focus in the other areas of your business.
You will be fine with offering mani's & pedi's just make sure you have an extensive menu from basic to deluxe

Good Luck M8

You have obviously thought about your decison long and hard. There are many salons around my area that specialise in your field without doing enhancements and do very well. You have given it your best and its not worth compromising on your other services. Best wishes Jenny you will be fine.xxx

hay hun,

well done giving it a bloody good go at nails, i agree with the other posts. once i had a bad batch of nail glue and four new ladies nails came off.

i called them to explain it was the glue 3 came back thank god but i lost one. word of mouth is a great advertisement but one bad one can kill everything you have built up.

maybe see if there is a nail technician in your area where you can work together and promote eachother. that could work? just an idea

good luck hun, health and happiness
