Morning all!

I did a beautifull set of NSI Gel nails on a client (who is a Chemist Dispenser) last Thursday and when i seen her again at the weekend for her waxing the nails were off.

I was a bit annoyed since she had signed to say they would be removed proffesionally & i was worried of the damage she would have caused by either trying to pull them off or filing them off.

However, she said that when she was giving out the mornings Methodone at the clinic she spilt it and when she cleaned it up it dissolved her gels and they just fell off tips and all.

Her nails were in great condition surprisingly.

Anyways, long story short if you have any clients who are in contact with Methodone (Shouldn't be many) then warn them that it could destroy their nails.

I'd better warn my sister, she is a mental health nurse that runs substance misuse clinics, she's handling it all the time!!! xx

Ye gods, if it does that to your nails, what the hell is it doing to the inside of their veins:eek:

I thought methadone was swallowed? Someone correct me if im wrong :irked:

Either way it does make you wonder what it does to your insides if its capable of doing that to your nails

your both right, Methadone, comes in pill, tablet and liquid form and can be given orally or as an injection, so the thing is, it still makes you wonder what it does to the inside of body, be it veins, mouth, throat etc, if it dissolves gel nails :eek: dont think i ever wanna know tbh lol

i deffo dont think they give ypou methadone when you are in labour , pethadine yea but not methodone , its a heroin substitute
its hideous stuff !! am not surprised it melts nails , :irked:

Just what i was thinking  xxxxxxxxx

it may have been what she cleaned it up with that melted them.
Methadone in liquid form has a pump attached to the top to measure out the correct dose.
To spill that amount of methadone seems a bit exaggerated to me. Perhaps it's just an excuse she gave for taking them off .... kinda like "they just fell off".
She gets points for originality from me if this is the case.

I agree with Zoo ... Sounds like another one of those client excuses to me and frankly I'm not sure it should even be on a thread on this forum as there is no proof what so ever that what the person said has any truth to it or not.

In any case, the chance of it happening again to a client are pretty remote I would have thought.

In fact thinking of it further, there is no way a person with half a brain would ever clean up methadone without wearing gloves to protect herself.. It is standard procedure in any lab to wear gloves at all times.

I think this whole thing is a load of old rubbish and that this thread should be deleted.

Go on then - you have the POWER :green::green::green:

had pethadene in 2nd labour but def something being with M in first labour. apparently they don't give it to you in 2nd labour but give you pethadene instead.

I believe that this girl was telling the truth as she is a good friend of mine and has no reason to lie.

Her methadone aparantly is in a pump type machine which like a drinks dispenser where the cup goes in the tray and gets filled up to the right dosage.

However when she took it out of the machine to give to the patient she dropped it on the counter and quickly grabbed some tissue to clean it. As to why she didn't wear gloves i dunno i'm not a chemist maybe it's not practice in her clinic.

I don't think this post should be deleted i am just giving a warning to others it would only take a second to warn someone in this trade of the possibilities and save their nails than totally dismiss my post!

And just how many methedone dispensers/users come onto the salongeek website and would benefit from a warning, from a dubious source, about methedone removing their nail enhancements??

Perhaps a more meaningful thread where all known and proven substances that remove nail enhancements could be listed???

I just don't think this is earth shattering news even if it is true which we do not know is the case. Things that are not known to be fact should not be posted on the main forum of a world wide website such as thesalongeek in my opinion.

As for cleaning up a substance that is a heroine substitute and stronger than morphine without wearing gloves??? That has got to be the most crazy thing I have ever heard not to mention downright dangerous ... If you ask me, after doing that she wouldn't have a clue HOW her nails came off!

I reckon she's using that as an excuse.
I don't have reason to believe meth dissolves nails. and yes it does have a pump to measure the dose so she couldn't hav spilled it.
If it did I think the poor minks on it who drink it might have slightly inflamed throats.

friend or not
LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE:green:

Hmm, even if some alcohol (ethanol) was present in the methadone solution (as is present in Oramorph oral morphine for example) then I would imagine even that would have pretty much zilch effect on her nails - as don't you need to dip them in acetone for a couple of hours or so to get them off?

The methadone solution would probably have as much effect on the nails as spilling a glass of wine on them!

Well being a nosey geek and one that would like to know all the facts, I thought I would check this out.....
MSDS is available for all sorts of things including medicine......
So I found this, to make a long read short I have just listed this:

Personal protection
Regulated drug in most countries. Wear gloves to prevent absorption through the skin. Ensure good ventilation.

So I can't see how on earth anyone could dish out Methadone and not wear gloves, its a clinic after all and I am sure that nurses and staff would have to follow strict drug administration guidelines. Absorption mishaps with a drug like this, could turn them into Methadone dependens.....thats why they have to wear gloves full stop.........
So I am with geeg on this one, It has to be porkies to excuse the "they have come off" saga......

So I don't think much more can be added to this thread............ except....the padlock xxx
