I spray tanned my first clients tonight and one of them is going to a ball tomorrow night. She is quite pale but apparently tans quite well on holiday.

She wanted to go with a 5% but I did not think there would be enough solution to spray her completely so we decided to go with a 8%.

Will the tan adapt to how she tans naturally, I am really worried that she is going to be too brown and spoil things for her night out tomorrow!

I know I worry too much but like things to be absolutely perfect!

How often do any of you use 5% and would they have to be whiter than white fo you to use it on them.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

I dont use a 5% to be honest, we use 8% suntana and that is the lightest we find is needed. we use i on auburn haired customers and very very pale customers.

We used to have a 5% but to be honest, everyone who had it, wanted to go darker.

hope that helps.

What solution did you use? I sprayed a girl who is very pale does not tan at all in the sun and I sprayed her in 8% Sienna x and she was a lovely colour she was really pleased with it so dont worry Im sure your client will be fine, I used to worry myself sick about how the clients tan's would develop I have not been tanning that long but now i am so much more confident and have stopped worring myself sick over every spraytan I do.

I never use a 5% either, 8% is the lightest I go and I rarely use that to be honest, she will be a lovely colour with the 8% even if she was really pale, if she tans really well in the sun she could probably take a 10% too :green:

I'm a Fake Bake loving gal, but decided to offer Tantrick's 5% for the very pale skinned a few months ago. To be honest, I've had very little take-up for it, and even when I've suggested it to very pale new clients, they've refused it and have wanted Fake Bake (or perhaps it's me not doing a good enough sales job on it!).

I have never used a 5% and i do 50-70 sprays a month!
8% is the lowest i have. It does depend on what solution you use though. An 8% celebrity secrets is lighter than say an 8% tantrick. I use mainly 8 and 10% and fake bake darker on naturally dark clients.
Have just sampled LA Tans 10% and 18% and the 10% was bloomin dark. Will need to sample the 8% to see what that's like and i am thinking that i will probably be a lot darker than the 8% i use at the moment. If this is the case then that would probably be the time to get a 5%-well if they did a 5% which they don't!

I dont think it matters how well you sell it, if someone is coming to have a tan they want it to notice more than a 5% would, I got a bottle of it with my original kit and ended up throwing it away a couple of months ago - i'd had it over 4 years and hardly used any!! Maybe if they were blue to start with it would be ok? lol

Hiya

I use Sienna as a general rule (who don't do 5%) but I do carry the Tantrick 5%. I use it on my family in the winter mainly (we are all very pale ppl) and I use it on ladies (I want to say older ladies but that isn't quite right) who don't want all out tan but who want a 'bit of colour.' I don't use much admittedly but I do always have some in stock just in case. Most people can take an 8%, including all my family, but I like to have the option of the 5% and everyone always comments on it when I'm wearing it so it can't be that light.

I also use it for nervous first-timers, that way they can get used to having a tan without it being too noticable. One of my regulars made her nanny have a tan as she was going on her first date in 20odd years and she wore a 5%. It is for that kind of thing that I carry it.

I use an 8% as my standard colour.

I don't use 5% I don't even use 8%
10% and 12% do me. I spray my sis who is a red head in 12% and it's great. It depends on the type of solution your using though xxx

Thanks everyone, that has really put my mind at rest. I thought she would have been dissapointed with 5% and would want to go darker so I think we made the right choice!

I am salon based so obviously it is a bit easier for me. I offer quite a lot of treatments in my salon so people who are coming in for other treatments book for tans when they come in.
I actually haven't done any advertising for spray tans apart from flyers on my counter that people have taken.
Most of my customers are purely word of mouth and recommendations. Word of mouth is the best advertising but unfortunately it's the slowest!
I also charge £12.50 for tans which attracts some people.
When i've advertised for other treatments in my salon i've found that flyers are the best.
Hand them round the town, leave then in shops, colleges, gyms etc... and give some to your friends to pass on.

of our 5/8/10 and 12% range the ratios of what % sells the most varies during the course of the season.
Right now its 10% then 8% the 12% and lastly 5%

5% has always been the least taken however I have noticed this last year that it has started to creep up slightly and is about half of the ratio on the 12% variant(before it was about 25% )

Many therapists carry a 500ml variant of the 5% for those customers who are looking for a subtle tan look.
HTH

:) Hi I use 5% a fair bit, I think it depends on where you live sometimes, they are all fairly scared of a full on tan round here. I do mostly 8% then 5% then 10 % the least favorite. I find men quite like the 5% as they get a good colour without it looking obviouse they have a spray tan. I really love the colour of the 5% it's a definate for Brides for me too.xx

I do have the 5% but rarely use it,
if i think a nice natural colour is called for when the client is nervous about their first tan i use Tantricks Essence of summer to give them a fantastic healthy glow,
it works every time and they always come back for more tans, hth

Is Tantrick the only company to offer a 5% solution, or are there others out there? Must admit until I read this thread I didn't know there was such a thing!!! Might be useful for me as I'm very pale & don't like to look like I've "been sprayed" if you know what I mean, but need a bit of colour to sell my spray tanning! Catch 22!

Be nice to get a few samples and try them out :)

Now when you say Older, just how old are we talking ..... 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s ...?

Ahem........ As i've said before-i don't do them dirt cheap, everyone else is expensive! :)
A lot of my clients have wanted to try a tan before but have never wanted to pay the prices. I get quite a lot of clients telling me that's it's nice to have a price that affordable.
I just cater to my clients.
