I've been doing waxing for years but like many - bikini waxing taught at college, was just the very outsides and a bit underneath but as almost all my clients now want either a brazilian or almost all off - the bit I struggle the most with is not the sides or the underneath or even the buttock area but the (how can I put this) the outer labia bit! I find clients want the hair off here but its hard to stretch as i find you run out of room so to speak - has anyone got any tips or ways they do this delicate area????

TA x:eek:

no doubt kim or axiom can tell us the answer to this as they are the king & queen of waxing , lol

had to laugh though hun , i have got a vision in my head of you stretching to the other side of the room , you know like the fruit winders advert :lol:

Hi girls,
I completly understand what you mean, and like yourself was taught the same way at college.
But over the past 7 years I have been doing, brazilian, playboy and americans.
I used to give the bikini wax clients a tissue and ask them to fold it along the side of the knicker, and hold back as high as they wanted to go.
I started to notice more and more clients going higher, hence ending up with the brazilian strip.
So I really went from there and taught myself the rest.
I was the first therapist in my area to start doing the waxes, and over the years it has become more popular- as you all know.
The best advice I can offer would be, to ask your client to `help` you, by holding and pulling those areas.
It is quite hard to explain when putting it in words, but if the client can bend their leg in certain angles you can get to everywhere much easier.
Hope this helps!
x

Hiya,

I used to have this same issue then I ...

Started to ask the client to pull the upper half of the bikini area (the top of the labia where the "crease" begins) and then wax. I can usually do this in one go. Alternatively, you can do small sections at a time, asking the client to move thier fingers down after you have waxed each area (thier hands must be clean) so as keep the required amout of pull. You may also wish to stretch the bottom half if you feel the skin is not taut enough.

Then the inner area I do like this...

Ask the client to pull all her "bits" out of the way, this way they are stretching for you. Then, where the leg is already turned out, you pull that skin taut and remove the wax.

A lot of what I know when it comes to intimate waxing is self taught and then bits of in house training, so I hope this make sense. Sure there is someone else with some great way on how to do this. lol

I always thought that "intimate waxing" was a more specialist certificate than the waxing we are taught for normal bikini waxing?

Set the scene: Your client is laying flat on her back and you're standing to the right of her (if you're right handed). Place the heel of your left hand on the pubic mound, apply pressure and put upwards . The labia is now stretched.

With their legs parted and bent (like a frog), apply the wax in thin strips, from the crease of the leg, moving inwards towards the labia. As you get to the labia, with your thumb and index finger, turn the labia outwards and apply the wax and remove so that you get right inside.

ENJOY YOUR CHINESE.............BYEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I and alot of my friends have basically after years of waxing taught ourselfs to do brazilain and hollywoods(all off). what i would do if your brave enough is to have it done yourself by some then you get an idea of what angles and positions you should get you clients in

Yep, its best to get it done so you can get the idea of what/where, how to hold each area. Then you can tell the client how to hold and what the feeling would be like.

The other thing is to find out what your kind of bikini waxing your client wants, whether its normal, Brazilian, or Hollywood. Some clients dont really know the difference.

I find it quite annoying when clients book in for a normal bikini (only the sides off) and you end up doing a Brazilian for which they pay the normal bikini price!

AH - Thanks guys for all your weird and wonderful ways you do it....that is an enormous help:lol:
One more thing!
Do you think buying the brazilian hot wax and taking it off with your fingers would also be best in that area - I've only ever used strips!!!
Guess I need to go practise on someone willing!!

To be honest hot wax is a lot better in this area along with under arm it picks up shorter hairs gets the ones that are growing in different directions because you are almost stirring the wax into the hair.
I Was actually only ever taught hot wax ,strip wax was something new and not taught, thats how old i am but what stopped me using it from a business point of view was cost effectiveness because where as we used to be able to strain it through a pair of tights, whack up the temperature to kill off bacteria ,and then re use you cannot do that anymore,so your prices have to reflect this.

Its funny that waxing has almost gone back to the more traditional ways even the so called new film wax i remember having a rep in about 15 years ago and demonstrating it, it was great but we would have had to adjust our pricing dramatically.

If you want to offer more extreme waxing then yes you probably should look into the hot wax.

IMO, I have to say that I personally agree with this comment.

I always read the waxing posts on here with interest, you guys all sound very accomplished and experienced and I am fascinated by what you write!! It's always comprehensive, knowledgeable and humurous! But as far as I am concerned, a good intimate wax is a specialist skill which I do not feel I have the qualifications for, and as such I do not offer it. When when I was at college 15 years ago, a bikini line was literally just what would poke out of the sides of the clients bikini! I offer what I call a quick bikini tidy, which is just the sides and a bit off the top if the client wishes.

I do get a lot of clients asking for brazilians, some don't really understand what they're asking for!!?! I'd love to go on a course to learn how to do it properly (I'm hoping the the brow queen will have the pleasure shortly!) as I realise I'm missing out on huge client potential, but I would rather do that than make an awful hash of it. So until then, I'll leave the labia's to you guys who know what you're doing

Totally agree. Its a very new thing for most of us and even though i can wax very difficult areas and i am very confident i feel i would need tuition in this form of waxing by someone who already does it to feel like i could offer it myself.
I do do close bikini waxes but not bottoms or labias but i do think this is where things are going noone seems to like any hair any where anymore.

If all you've ever used is strip wax, and you are confident with technique...then there is no reason to switch waxes if you are comfortable with it. All I ever use is strip wax for full braz waxes and I'm done in 10-15 minutes (back, front and everything inbetween), with no bruising or torn skin and very satisfied clients :)

For a Brazilian wax I use a disposable Gstring to manouveur delicate bits and pieces (inner labia)out of the way without having to touch them with my hands. I get my client to lay flat on her back and do the "frog leg" on one side. On that side I get her to put her hand underneath her butt cheek and pull it outwards and upwards, that gives a fabulous skin stretch in the perineum area for the main area of waxing. To get between the butt cheeks I get my client to pull her knee up to her chest. I use hot wax over top of an oil to remove the bulk of the hairs, then go over with strip wax (applying more oil if necessary)to remove the finer hairs.

Hi Hun,
I have only been taught the basic bikini wax, using a warm wax system. But where I trained they did an advanced course using Hot wax for Brazillian & Hollywood waxes. Min requirements is certificate in warm waxing and at least 6 months waxing experience, Plus they state a mature attitude to waxing is required. I have been for Hollywood waxing, found a salon in my area that used the Hot Wax system, others advertised they did the treatment, but when I enquired I found they were using the warm wax with strips. Had that type of bikini wax for years. Now I have gone the whole way, Hot wax Hollywood, no comparison. The salon is so professional in their approach, I am not at all embarrased, and was surprised that my help in pulling bits was not required at all. I have been asked in the past on warm wax systems to pull etc. But NOT anymore. It is so quick, the first time was the worst, but to be honest, it didn't hurt, just a bit uncomfortable on a couple of wax removals. Since then I go every 3 or 4 weeks, building up to my hols, absolutely no pain. I think after hols may leave it 5 weeks in between visits. But you really SHOULD have it done on you, then you know what your client is feeling. The salon I use say they rarely do traditional bikini wax now, either Brazillian or Hollywood, so much more money in it. First treatment £27, maintenence 4-6 weeks £20. So that encourages clients to keep making appointments. Plus I often say can you do my underarm wax whilst I am here, so they get even more money. So all I have to do is my own leg wax....easy. Hope this is of some help. Lotsa luv x

I have to say I find all of this fascinating, and can't wait to get into it myself:lol: does that make me a weirdo? :green: Anyway I'm so glad so many of you ask questions because I wouldn't know what questions to ask and the answers are always so good.
Little bit of topic but I strongly suggest that anyone in need of a good laugh does a search for threads on home waxing:lol:

Its true that we're all adapting to the clients of today....I agree that my clients of say even 5 years ago weren't all opting for all off but over the years it seems to have gone from 'OMG you have a brazilian?' to 'yeah I get mine done at so and so's'

Ok so i've picked up loads of tips from this but can some one pls enlighten me about the use of oil that keeps getting mentioned!

Quite clearly I've been on planet Zag as I don't know anything about this or anyone that uses oil? What type is it- when and why do you use it?:)

I'm up for trying anything that improves a wax!
XXX:Grope:

Oil creates a fine barrier and is much gentler on the skin and less traumatic for the client.

I agree that Intimate Waxing shouldn't be undertaken without training. However, if you are a confident waxer, there's no reason that you shouldn't train as you'd pick it up straight away. Gillian, you'd be fab I'm sure.

A Brazilian is not just an extended bikini.........it's totally different and you need to know what you're doing. A Brazilian done properly is a skill and an art but that's not to say that you all couldn't do it. This is the reason that I'm a big fan of 1 to 1 training as I can demo and then watch closely as the trainee copies. xxx

when i completed my waxing course i was always told that intimate waxing (hollywood, brazilian etc) required specialist training
