Hi all

I am miffed at what has happened to my CND brush (Crystal touch pro styler).:irked:
For one the hairs are falling out of it and secondly its leaving a yellow mark on my nail wipes when wiping it.
I store it properly and clean it the way I was taught so I just dont understand whats going on, I only got it in March 2008 and dont use it everyday.
Do they normally only last about a year or so? I'm gutted as I loved that brush and found it great to work with.
Oh well off to the online store to buy another I guess. :(

Brushes last way longer when used and never ever allowed to go dry. Once the monomer has dried out in the brush it is pretty useless and contaminated which is why you are seeing the yellow.

Sorry but a new one is in order. And if you don't use it, then at least keep it moist and don't allow it to dry out. Sorry .. but that is the way it is with any brush.

I learned the hard way too.. Give her a drink everyday.. even if you are not using her she needs attention.. (especially if)
I also found out the hard way that using brush cleaner can age a brush much faster.. I never use a brush cleaner now and find i have less problems with contamination then i used to..

lol! who feeds her when you are on holiday !?

I read in another forum that if you wipe the monomer off the brush using a paper towel, that the bleaching chemicals in the paper towel can also cause yellowing. A number of other poster confirmed this.

Regardng gel brushes; Amy Becker posted these nuggets some weeks ago:

Synthetic brushes need to be replaced more quickly than sable. I used to replace my synthetic brushes 1 to 2 times a month because of the fraying you're speaking of.

Sable gel brushes last 2-4 months. And they still won't fray. Eventually they get shorter and will not have the nice chisseled edge as when you first got it. This shortened brush does not work with the gel as easily as a fresh brush.

Don't clean your gel brushes. It will shorten the life of the brush, sable or synthetic. Lana and Liz are right. Just pinch out the excess product.

haha your assuming i have a life outside of work and kids!!:green:

TBH she comes with me.. (you never know where a client lurks)

(thats not sad, Grafxgal bought all hers from NZ in the coolest CND case:) they were the best looked after brushes i have ever seen!)

I actually just got a new Ultra Sculptor and she is sexy as hell.. If i didnt take her on hols i think she would have a major hissy fit and go on strike!

My last brush (508) worked hard everyday for so long then i put her away to start at a new job with a new brush.. went back to get her one day and she was.. dead ..

**** O.M.G**** you must have been devastated !
she musta known that her career in monomer was finished and she was being superseded by a young, fresh, sexy model, the poor thing !

I don't use my L&P brush every day so I keep her in my special store.

I have a glass jar with a dappen dish in the bottom, half filled with monomer. I have a hole punched in the lid and I use a clothes peg clamped around foil, wrapped around the brush, leaving the flags just in the monomer.

My brush is very happy living like this

If you have old monomer on your brush then you will get yellowing, also scrub fresh is a killer (you shouldn't have anything like scrub fresh or acetone near your brush.) If the brush has filler hair then you can find that the filler hair will come out, I must confess that I had my Ultra Sculptor for 12 months, and yes I used it 4 days a week and had at least 7 clients minimum a day, and only had two weeks off a year, so it was most ceratinly used!
However I have now fallen in love with Entity's brushes, the pink and black, try them they are fab to use!
You most certainly need a new brush, hope you sort your brush problem out!! x

Of to sort that out right now:green:

Oh I learned the hard way too, not giving my brush a regular drink and it yellowed all my sets then it had to be binned and replaced. Never again!

Thanks folks I appreciate the comments
I do use the brush at least every 2 weeks (for my nails) and if I have any clients in between

But hey I will sure know for the next time.

Gonna go buy me a new brush now (just won't tell the hubby lol)

Thanks again
Angela

I'm curious, b/c I've had my darling trusty brush for 4 years and have only used it every 2 weeks for me & on clients in between - it has certainly had days where it's not been touched, but still in great condition. When I wipe my brush on a cloth it is not leaving yellow streaks... but could it still be contaminated anyway? I have the odd nail discolouration (not on me) on a client who only has discolouration on her thumbs (she doesnt' smoke)...
How would I know if my brush is really ok?

sure sign of contaminated brush is it leave a yellow mark on the wipe pad.

Your client: Make sure you throughly remove any topcoat and or nail polish before you do the rebalance, any residue on the enhancement or natural nail plate will cause discoloration.
Also just check and see if it is not centre pocket lifting.

Yes you will certainly notice the horrible yellow mark on your wipe pad, you can't miss it honest.

a brush case makes all the difference for me :)
