Happened to me yesterday where a client asked for a discount on a treatment and got me wondering as to who else has been asked for a discount, and what was their reason.

A girl called up the other day as she has had bikini waxes previously and all been fine. Then last one she had she got a rash afterwards and asked what products I used and if I would do a patch test on her to see if she would get a reaction. Of course I agreed, and even went in on my day off to do it!
Now in between her last appointment elsewhere she had shaved. First time must of been further inwards than the last time. All the hair was diff lengths. I done a small section at the top and said as some hairs are short she might not get the best result, but I would try get the smaller ones out with tweezers should no reaction occur.
She provisionally booked in an appointment 48 hours later and I said to call me if she gets any reactions but if I didnt hear from her I would assume everything was ok.
She called a few hours before coming in to say everything was ok, I said great see u soon. Then she asked if she was entitled to a discount. I asked why. She said because I told her she would not get the best result as some hair was shorter than others!! I said thats nothing to do with my waxing or my method its just because the hair is too short to grip the wax but I had already told her I would do my best with the tweezers on those parts. I think she was a bit confussed poor girl as she seemed to think it was due to me that she wouldnt get a good result!
She came in, I carried out the waxing. She was happy, paid then left! No mention of a discount hehe!

I did once have a client for a full set who was minus one finger and asked if she coud have a discount because of it?? lol I said no .. that my charge was for my time and that the appointment woud take me an hour regardless of whether or not she was minus a finger. She sucked it up and paid. Can you imagine? Funnily enough if she hadn't asked me I might have even offered her a reduced rate but when she was cheeky enough to ASK me I thought .. NO WAY. I am a bit perverse that way lol!!

Hmmm 3 stand out...
had a woman the other day ask if we gave discounts to people with special needs:rolleyes:

I figured she was fishing but politely told her no.

Also on more than one occasion, I have had new clients come in, and explain their color disasters, wanting a fix, and its not until the very end of the consultation that you realize they are new, and didnt have the affore mentioned disaster happen here....politely explain that that dosent entitle them to anything from us.

Many many times, get clients come in and say they didn't have enough taken off....we will always nip you up more if after you have styled your own hair ( a day or two) and find it too long.......only to look back in the records and see it has been six weeks:eek:
No discount for you.

I get asked all the time if i give discount as they are a student, no! is my answer i didnt ask them to be a student and i didnt ask them to come to me. lol.

I have been asked if single mums get a discount and my answer is no the wholesalers dont give me discount and im a single mother! haha. cheeky cheeky!

Or i have clients that are regulars that class themselves as friends and ask for mates rates! Even though we have never socialised outside of the spray tan tent.

you have to love how some people have the guts to ask for things.

I've been asked to offer a discount if

A) they brought their own polish
B) they brought their own tips and product
C) if they were a student/senior
D) because so-n-so charged less

no, no, NO, and NO

Some peeps are just priceless.......

I have had a belter today. A new client, who had a full set off semi perm lashes at a different salon about 3 weeks ago came to me today for "in fills". She had 4 lashes left on one side and 7 lashes left on the other and there was a lot of natural lashes attached to the few extensions that she did have left. Anyway (she was also 35 mins late btw) I explained I would need to to remove what was left and re-apply a new set and she asked me if she could have the new set for the same price as the infills if she promised to come back and be regular. Well you know when you just get a feeling? So I politely said no, but sometimes I just despair!

Iv had this also! Girl booked in for lash extensions, calls me the day before asking how much it will be. Told her then she asked if I could do it for X amount as the salon near her charges this. Politly told her no, my prices are my prices no exceptions. Then she never bothered showing up for her appointment

Then a so called friend asked me to do hers and her friends nails. Told her ok and how much it would be. She said her friends cousin can do it for £5 less each. As I wasnt busy that week I agreed to do it for that price, as 2 clients were better than none! Then the responce I got was "great thanks very much as that price also included minx toes" Im like ehhhhhh wait a minute!!! Told her my price was nails only no minx. She said she would much rather I do their nails and minx. Told her to add on £20 each to the price if they want minx done also! She said she would just leave it! What a chancer!!

I had a lady just last Saturday ask me if she could have a discount, she had previously been in for a half leg wax, and was very particular you could say, she asked me how much for a hand wax, so I gave her a price, assuming it would just be hands, as I think you would lol, when she came in it was an arm wax, she tried to tell me how to do it, and then made me late by assuring me she had also asked for an eyebrow wax, which I did but knew she hadn't asked, she asked me how much my manicures and pedi's were, I told her, now I am very reasonable, in fact too reasonable, started off to cheap and am struggling to rise prices......well heard story lol, anyway she asked could I have a discount because I have had other treatments done, I just said no sorry, the cost of my treatments are extremely competitive, if you have a look at the prices of other salons you will see this.........the reply was....even though I have had a few other treatments????....again I said yes, my treatments cover the cost of products used, and a little for my time, very little for my time so I am sorry I don't offer discounts..........I then left her in the hands of the hairdresser that rents the shop with me lol, and she proceeded to dissect all her pricing structures as well, how much for a cut....cut and conditioning treatment.....conditioning treatment alone....if I go home and blow dry myself lol............I just couldnt do that........he her head was burling like mines had been before.......some people want a whole lot for nothing eh lol x

I have had the same too, twice I said no both times, but I did waver a bit

I rarely get asked for discounts, its generally people who work for the NHS who ask.

the only people I have ever discounted for are students that have attended about 2-3 courses with me and asked for a discount.

We get people come in to the salon wanting their hair done after having it done somewhere else and not being happy with the result. They go on about how much they have already spent and then ask how much it will cost them to have some more highlights/lowlights etc.......
They are basically asking for a discount because they weren't happy with the previous salon. Not our problem and it's still our time.
We also had one client ask how much it would be for a full head of colour. When we told her how price she replied with 'but i only have a small head'. I didn't laugh..much! Wanting a discount for having a small head-laughable!

How cheeky is that. Lol :)

we have discount offers on our facebook page, they must quote the facebook offer code when booking or they dont get the discount. we also offer a birthday discount. we send a card with a birthday discount voucher. thats about all the discounts we do offer.

I was asked once if i would give someone 50% off their nails as they only had small nail plates. pffft. NOPE. I should charge more, tiny nail plates are a nightmare!!!

That made my day  some people have so much cheek it is unbelievable!

I do facebook offers also now and again when Im quite. Also put one a month on my website but state its for salon treatments only and must quote at time of booking. That way it could gain me some clients from them visiting the website.
Had spray tans at £15, a girl called me with no mention of the website offer and asked if I could do a spray tan at her house. Went and done it and she paid, a day later she said Im due her a £5 refund as my website says that month spray tans were £15 and she paid £20. Said it does say its for salon treatments only and not for mobile. She went on and on for about 5 mins about her rights and that she overpaid etc and next time she books in she should be given her £5 off then instead! Even though its clear as day on the website that the offer is for in salon treatments only!

As I rent out a hairdresser sometimes I have to answer the phone and had something similar get asked. Girl asked how much to get her roots done, I looked it up and told her. She asked how meny inches regrowth is that for. Said I didnt understand what she was meaning. She said she only had about 1/2 inch regrowth so was that cheaper?!
You do wonder what goes on in some peoples heads!

I had a long term epilation client ask the other week for discount as 'she's been a regular for some time'. I told her I'd give her a wee discount if she paid upfront for 6 appointments, which she did :)

Had another client in the other day. I did her a mini manicure, & my colleague did a pedicure on her (after I'd left the salon for the afternoon).

Get a phone call from therapist a bit later on saying client wants a discount because she was uncomfortable during the treatment & so didn't enjoy it!!!! That would be because she was sooooo overweight. Poor Holly had to change position of client and how she sat & where she sat soooo many times, she over ran by 20 odd mins. No client was booked in next but Holly had a very short lunch break that day :-(

Yes, I did give a discount because I knew from the bit that I saw her she was just 'one of those clients' & I'm a sucker for trying to keep the peace, lol

Thankfully we get very few iffy clients.

I had a lady call in and ask if I would offer a discount on semi permanent eyelash extensions because she was a technician herself and knows costs of products and approx. how much money I would make from her, so a discount would be fair. I refused and told her that if she is not happy to pay my price I know a very good tech who recently qualified and charges less, I also quoted the price she charges. She asked me for her number. Later on I get I call from the eyelash tech I recommended and she says to me that she has booked a person that I have referred and she won't charge her anything. I asked "WHY WOULD YOU NOT CHARGE HER ANYTHING?". She said because the lady said that I said that she will do them for free. Since we know each other well, she would do that for me, if I asked her to do someone for free. However I never said that!!! I called the lady back and said what she did was inappropriate and cancelled her appointment.
