Hi my hubbie is in the process of creating a web site for me, we are only on the first page and sorting the buttons out - we have a dispute lol, I wanted something a bit different so chose polish bottles which will say menu etc when hovered over, but he likes the fact that they are different colours when I want them all pale pink so there arent too many colours on the site what do you think please take a look and your opinion would be appreciated. please click the link Get Nailed P

Your right, they will look better all the same colour,
and same shape for all the bottles :wink2:

Thanks loubylou do you think it will look naff ?

All pink bottles ... def .... loving it so far...

I'd use the same design of bottle for consistency rather than different looking bottles.

Also, it's bad from an accessibility point of view for the menu to only display the text when hovered over by the mouse; for good accessibility it's better to always display the text for the navigation links.

There's an "antipattern" in web design called "mystery meat navigation" which is where purely graphical links (with no text) are used for navigation - and that is bad because it's not giving the user enough information about where they are going (also they've got no chance at all if they are blind and using a screen reader).

So I'd strongly recommend displaying the text for the navigation at all times - maybe make it change colour or go bold when you hover over it?

I agree, same colours, same shapes. It'll look lovely, nice idea.

Oh and just an observation, tanning parties, not party's

Of course you can still use the nail polish bottle to the left of the text for the navigation links though!

I think the page is lovely but the first thing that stood out to me where the polishes. The yellow really doesn't go on that lovely page. No hubby!! lol
Well done hun and give us an update when he has finished xxx

Thanks loubylou do you think it will look naff ?

No i don't think it will look naff

i do think that Ruth has made a very good point about needing words written on each bottle to make the navigation easier for your readers though

Thank you all yes "I Won " all pink bottles with wording and see what it looks like anyhow. Thanks stoney yes I had realised I have re written that page with amendments and asked him to upload it. Thanks again guys. xxx

Can I make a tiny, weeny observation .... not about the lovely nail polish bottles, but about the wording. In your opening paragraphs you mention "I" or "My" 6 times.

My marketing knowledge (albeit limited) tells me that the potential client doesn't want to read about "you" but wants to know what "you can do for ME", so it should be listing the benefits to "you, you, you" rather than all about "me, me, me". Does that make sense? Sorry if it doesn't. Hope that's not too irritating an observation xx

No not at all any criticism is great positive or negative. I see what you mean and will have a look to see where it can be changed. Thanks. xx

Oh thats good to know! That makes absolute sense, thanks for the tip!

Um, the nail polish bottles look pale blue to me, not pink . I even had to double check, but they are definately blue

Yep the polish bottles look blue to me too:eek:
Did your pink get chilly:lol::lol:

Being serious for a mo, your site looks great, well done. Xxx

Ha! no they are blue at the moment but I think I am going to have plain old buttons lol. Its too much hassle to photo shop and hubbie keeps just bloody uploading what HE think looks nice  I know he is trying to help bless him, but I keep telling him this is why he leaves the house decor to me! So I am off to look for some buttons and hopefully get him to change it tonight, at this rate my info will need up dating by the time it is finished.
