Hey all just need to get this off my chest. I had a call yesterday from a bloke wanting a spray tan done. I have never done sprayed a bloke before, but during the call i got very freaked out. He was going on about how he didn't want lines and if i would spray him naked!! Well i said no but he said, well am gay and i wouldn't be alone when i was tanning him. I told him to go to a salon but he wanted me to go to him. Sorry if this is ramdom but it has kinda freaked me out!

Any advive? has any1 had this before?

Cherie

I had something very similar to this except there were two of them! I ended the call when he started talking about having tan sprayed uphis holes!

Do not let this stop you spraying men, but always make sure someone is either with you or sat outside in the car!

Thanks for this is has been really helpful!

If you are in doubt then stay out! I think its a shame that we do have to worry about men as they are not all creeps but you need to feel safe and stay safe and no amount of money is worth you feeling otherwise.
I dont do male clients unless they have been recomended to me by one of my current clients. I do spray one man who is my hairdresser but apart from that i wouldnt risk it.
And there was a thread on here a little while ago about a man that kept asking for more barrier cream so he could rub it on his bits xxx

Have also had a similar call this week. Did offer appointments, but said I would have my husband present whole time. They just said theyd ring back !!!!

Aye I'd second the need for a chaperone (e.g. big burly husband or boyfriend) to be present when spraying a male client you don't know - especially if you are mobile or work from a home salon. If the client is genuine then surely they would accept the need for them to be present for your safety and security?

It's a shame that one needs to be careful because of the minority of dodgy pervs out there, but always better to be safe than sorry!

Hey thanks geeks i will mention that again if i get some1 else calling that my boyfriend will be there.
Thanks again.xx

I had a call a couple of weeks ago from a guy wanting a spray tan.......
yes naked,
he said he had a job as a naked cleaner,
i was very unprofessional (not usual for me) and cracked out laughing and asked him if he was having a laugh,
he said he was serious, so i booked him in,
i phoned him on the morning to confirm the booking and remind him of the prep needed, he said he would be there,
my neighbouring shop is run by a lovely gay man so i told him what i was expecting and asked if he would wait in the corridor while i sprayed this client (try stopping him lol)
guess what....
the client never turned up,
we were both gutted :lol::lol::lol:,

always trust your instincts hun and always have a friend if you are ever unsure hth

I have read threads like these before, and guess what i think its happen to all of us. I had one a few months back 'mine was a text' told me to spray him naked and asked me what would he do with his 3rd leg could i spray him as well, i just never replied, me and my boyfriend clicked on. Like the other geeks have mentioned always have someone with you when their is a man involved, and yes always follow your instinct its always right or at least 99.9% of the time.

Hiya,
Have had some great males in for tans..just make sure that you are in control of the bookings and that you are not alone..if you are alone then tell a member of family that you are unsure and if they can call you when your work sould be completed..if you don't answere then somethings up

this is how i worked it

Good Luck, men love tans as much as we do

for gods sake, he said he was a poof.......
ask him to sing the first few lines of any Barbra Streisand or Liza Minelli song, or better still "I am what I am", if he can't do this, then he isn't really gay.:)

Then resort to freaking out.

I understand you freaking out (to a certain degree), but what you should do in your advertisements is state "women only".

Take the initiative and decide if you want to do men or not, then decide how you are gonna handle the situation.

Completly agree, I hope to become a skin geek at some point in life , but things like this and male waxing would worry me , I think the best way to avoid these situations if there going to happen is to advertise ..women only unless you can handle it, I know I couldnt.

If a man rings for an appointment, be it for waxing or tanning, I always tell them that I would prefer if they could make the appointment when my husband can be at home(home salon), I have never had a genuine appointment question this, they almost also sound releived and agree. After they have been to me for a couple of appointments, and all is fine I dont worry so much, but they always know that my husband may be home, or come home at any time.

Thanks people for getting back to me!

I do mostly massage and have no problems with male clients. In the hundreds I've done, I've only had 2 people who were a bit dodgy and wanted extras - even after I'd told them on the phone no and it's on my answering machine as well. Just told them no and that was the end of it.

If I only had 'women only', I'd probably only have 1-2 clients a week. 98% of my clients are male - and half of the time it's the wife\gf who rings to make the appointment.

For all the therapists in my area who won't have male clients, I'm happy to have them because they put food on my table.

ok guys not really sure why everyone is freaking out here!!!!! just tell them when booking that they must wear underwear and then its dealt with!!!!!!!!
if you feel uncomfortable doing it get someone to wait outside the room, for god sake dont be fuuny with males as you will loose clients and its not professional.

I couldn't agree more

The bottom line here is that as a therapist you are going to be exposed to all sorts of situations..some you will not be comfortable with when they first come up however after a while these issues will just be brushed aside.

You do need to learn to deal with these situations ..after all you are in the business of working with human beings...and are they all different or what

The main thing is to be the one in controll...turn any situation into one where you call the shots...this will come in time and through experiencing these things.

Guy's are generally speaking fantastic customers to work on

I've spray tanned a few men, although I seem to be able to tell over the phone who to proceed with and who not. I also tend to spray males with females to make me more comfortable, and tell them straight away that they have to wear underwear. If I don't feel comfortable when booking, I tell them to book through a salon I work in, even though the money isn't going to me as I'm just paid by the hour. I have only had one dodgy call though so far when the man rang from a private number.. alarm bells starting ringing straight away as most people show there number and he kept saying wouldn't I be tempted with champagne and chocolates, luckily not that offensive, but plenty of warnings to show that he was dodgy. i did explain that the reason I don't go to males homes is because in this day and age it is dangerous which is a shame that some ruin it for everyone else. I'm not quite sure I should have said this, but I felt it showed I was a professional and was not going to put up with that type of phone call.

There are some great guys out there, that just want a tan and it is those I feel sorry for as they are unable to get a tan easily other than going in to a shop, and quite often there embarrassed doing that (at least some of the guys that I have sprayed). Please give some of the lads a chance, and I'd suggest going with someone, or making sure you are spraying a women at the same time. Also ensure that they do not ring from a withheld number, and to always make sure you give someone the details of where you are going.

I totally agree, I know there are so many pervy perversons out there, but just be carefull how you handle it because everyone is different and some people won't realise that they are asking for something you don't do.

Mmm, sounds a bit dodgy to me, probably best if he does go elsewhere. I would say always trust your instinct and if you are not comfortable just advise him to go elsewhere like you did. The only other thing you could have done is suggest that he comes to you and make him aware that your husband/boyfriend is also going to be in the house.
