Been for my followup appointment to day at the hospital after having nerve conductor tests last week.

The consultant explained what it was (i already knew it was carpal tunnel) and what causes is etc then gave me my file and a sheet of paper and told me where to go.

Off i trots, hands in my file and then was given a questionaire to fill out before been called through to a room where the nurse takes my bp, weight & height, gives me a bottle of body shampoo and nose cream

Now as you can imagine im wondering what im doing with these in my hand lol the nurse looked at me and then said "Oh when you get your admision date through count back 5 days and use them" Admition date??

Ok but how and what for? well the nose cream has to be placed up each nostril and rubbed in 3 times a day and the wash is just that, a body wash.

Both have to be used from 5 days prior to going in, apparently its to combat infection within the hospitals.

So im booked in for both hands doing  i think they will have to do one at a time, theres no way i can look after cj armless lol

:hug:Huni......if i lived closer i could look after cj ..............hope it all goes well and you dont suffer too much pain xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:hug:

OMG mate, how come i haven't had a phone call about this lol
and i am not surprised they gave you the body wash and nose cream to keep you germ free that hospital was absolutely filthy, the windows looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the hos was built,
i would ask for it doing somewhere else, the last thing you need is MRSA too,
best get an order in to mundo for a few gallon of hand sanitiser to soak your self in while you are in that place
and you know where i am if you need a hand with the cheeky chappie

*big hugs*, hope it goes OK. What hospital are you going to incidentally? Sounds a bit scary about it being dirty and whatnot if that's true!

Hi Pips,

I have just had my date through for my knee keyhole surgery & I have to go for my 'check up' a week or two before. I guess they'll be handing me similar stuff too.
I understand the nose is a commom breeding ground for MRSA? Hence the cream.

Good luck with having the hand ops hun:hug: Is it wrist or actual hand?

How do they expect you to cope with a child and all?

We ought to start our own group - Soon to be admitted geeks!

i had the carpol tunnel op done about 8 weeks ago (on 1 hand) i dont want to be the bearer of doom and gloom but i struggled with just having 1 done  make sure you have plenty of help

Thanks everyone.

Its on the palm of the hand at the base of the thumb where the crease is, thats where they make the incision.

Im going to phone up tomorrow and tell them i only want 1 doing then will go back and have the other done a month or so after.

Giant hugs sweetie and please keep us posted if you can (could be hard, with one hand.. dictate to a friend?)

Do take care

xoxoxo

I feel for ya , I have severe 'Carpal Tunnel' myself that needs to be operated on , but I refuse to do it right now. Hate to be without my hands.
Hopes for ya feeling better.

Ive refuse the opp before but 2 years down the line and it was that bad last year i had to have it imobilised it plaster.

Now im not working i thought what better time to get it done!

At the begining the doctors was unsure if it was RSI playing up again but ive had 3 opps for that on my left wrist alone so i knew the pain was different.

They said i could be called in as soon as 6 weeks or sometimes withing the next 4 months. ( was going to book a holiday but think i'll have to settle for the odd day in brid now lol)

I'll keep you all posted

Hi, this may be totally off the mark and apologies if it upsets the "apple cart" but have you tried something called Bowen Therapy for your carpel tunnel syndrome? It is an alternative treatment, but is recognised by conventional doctors and although not normally available on the NHS, in my area some doctors will refer to Bowen therapists for some NHS treatment.

I have had treatment for a different problem and my therapist mentioned that there have been very good results for people with CTS. If you search on the net it will bring up a list of qualified therapists if you're interested.

Apologies again, if this is of no interest and good luck with the op, hope it all goes well and you're on the mend quickly.

Regards.

There was a post on this subject a while ago, there are injections available.
If you look through this post http://www.salongeek.com/chit-chat/63032-injections-carpal-tunnel-syndrome.html you will find some good posts/replies, also a friend of mine was staying with me at the time and he had the operation, his hand was out of operation for about 2 weeks very light duties, no water until stitches out (the usual stuff). I scanned pictures of his hand and you will find them in that other post.

Don't despair, it's actually a common operation (more for hairdressers) and as long as you have a good surgeon (hopefully a specialist) you will be back on board in no time at all. GOOD LUCK.

Good luck Pips and hope everything goes ok xx:hug:

I have just read the other post carl and what i find quite unusual is the site of the opp is at the base of the ring finger, i was shown my scar would be at the base of my thumb.
I guess it all depends where you have the most problems, mine seem to be thumb, index and middle finger that are taking the brunt.

I also agree with how good the emu oil is, i have some of this and use it on my scars and its fab, also use it on my arthritic joints and it helps no end with the aches and pains, ive shown in the pic below where he will do the incision on both hands.

The other pic shows the scars from 3 opps for RSI that didnt work, i now have limited movement in my left wrist and actualy classed as disabled because of this but try not to let it get in my way.

Aaaaah, the pic is interesting, so obviously you are gripping like hades with your thumb, it's quite odd how different people suffer differently, I've been doing nails for 22 years and pretty booked out for that whole duration with very little problems (I'm touching wood right now) good luck.

Not one to throw a spanner in the works, but did you get a 2nd opinion?

Hope it all goes well Pip. Let us know where we can send the Grapes and Orange Barley.

Ive had the same consultant for 20 years carl and i trust his opinions, judjments and advice 100%

IT ALSO SHOWS THE DETERIATION IN THE NERVE CONDUCT TEST (ooops sorry for caps) from the one i had done last year to the one i had done last week.

I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the RSI opps, same healing time, bandaging, elevation, stitches etc so im not worried about it been done, just theres no way i can have both done together :irked:

Just to add the consultant said my right hand is worse due to it working more to compensate my left not having full movement, maybe i should get that done 1st lol
